“That’s not my name.”

“Yes it is!”

“I’m Theo Gold. I was never a coach of some college team. I have no idea who you are. And you need to stop. Or else.”

Or else.Or else what? He’d already threatened me after I slapped him. And by the way he was staring at me, I believed he’d make good on his threat. “Whatever you say,Callum Walsh.”

I swear his nostrils flared. And I suddenly regretted everything I’d just said. Because he definitely didn’t look like he wanted to kiss me now. It was a murderous look. I was certain of it.

“I tried to warn you,” he said. His eyes fell to my neck.

Chapter 11

Saturday

My throat made a weird squeaking noise as Callum lifted his arm, caging me in again. God, he was going to kill me. Why the hell had I come in here?

Callum reached out and touched the side of my neck. Where his lips had once left a bruise. I remembered it perfectly, when he said he’d expected me to scream. Was he going to make me scream this time?

I wanted to run. I wanted to knee him in the balls. But I was frozen in place.

“Emma?” Bennett’s voice broke through the fog.

Callum didn’t move. He just stared at me with his piercing gaze. Like he didn’t mind having an audience when he slit my throat.

“Emma!” Bennett appeared beside me.

And Callum still didn’t move.

“What the hell is going on?” Bennett asked.

Callum finally tilted his head away from mine. He dropped his hands, but stayed so close to me I could feel the coldness coming off his skin.

“She got lost in the maze,” Callum said. “She was panicking. I was trying to calm her down.”

Bullshit.

I ran to Bennett and threw my arms around him, pressing the side of my face to his chest. He put his arm protectively around my shoulders. I knew I was shivering. And it seemed like the warmth radiating off of himwas the only thing that could help. All my boldness had suddenly evaporated. I couldn’t seem to find my words.

“Theo Gold,” Callum said and put his hand out for Bennett.

Bennett didn’t shake it. He just glared at him. “I know exactly who you are.”

Callum smiled at Bennett. Like he was used to being greeted with so much hostility. “Well I’m afraid I have no clue who you are.” It was such a flippant thing to say. He could have just asked Bennett who he was.

“I’m Emma’s boyfriend,” Bennett said.

That was a little presumptuous, but it seemed like the right thing to say to Callum’s smug face. I held on to Bennett a little tighter. He had told me he’d beat the shit out of Callum if I wanted him to. But I just wanted to get as far away from Callum as possible. I wanted out of this maze. Out of this town.

“Hm. Interesting.” Callum glanced once more at me. “Well, I’m glad she’s in safe hands,” he said with so much sarcasm.

What the fuck was his problem? If he didn’t know who I was like he claimed, then why was he being an asshole to Bennett?

Callum’s golden eyes locked with mine once more. “See you around town, Emma.” And then he stepped back, disappearing into the fog.

I instinctively touched my throat.

“Did he hurt you?” Bennett asked.
