Izzy drops her earrings on the table. “Welp, looks like I’m getting kicked out.”
I do my best not to stomp my way toward the pool tables, and I know Betsy and Izzy are behind me, so it likely looks like we’re a girl gang coming into battle. But at this point I don’t care. Let everyone see. Let everyone put the pieces together.
Because the hell if I’m going to let Emily touch Shane in any capacity.
“Hey, guys!” Betsy yells to announce our presence. She immediately throws her arms around Wes.
Izzy slides next to Oliver, placing her arm around him and holding out her other hand to Jessica. “Hi. I’m Izzy. Oliver’s wife. Nice to meet you. And you are?”
As much as I want to watch Jessica’s face in that moment, my eyes are set on one thing.
“Shane? Can we talk for a minute?”
“Amelia, we’re in the middle of something,” Emily says with a dismissive tone.
“I’m sureyouare. I just need Shane for one minute.”
Emily’s eyes narrow. “I’m sure it can wait.”
I shake my head. “Oh, but you’re wrong. Shane?”
“Excuse me, Emily.” Shane steps out from around her, Emily huffing in annoyance.
He doesn’t say anything as the two of us walk out of sight. The bathroom hallway isn’t the most private of places, but it’s the best I can think of on short notice.
“Amelia, I’m so sor?—”
I don’t let him finish that sentence. He can’t, when I have him pressed against the wall and I’m kissing him harder than I’ve ever kissed anyone in my entire life.
Because this man is mine. And I need him to know that.
I never thought I was a jealous person. I knew Paul was cheating, and I couldn’t muster up the will to care. I used to see Christina around town, knowing damn well she had slept with him, and I still didn’t say anything. I was indifferent. But seeing Emily within inches of Shane is making me a little crazy.
“Wow,” he says when I pull away. “What was that for?”
“Let’s just say I don’t like seeing my man being touched by another woman.”
His smile is small and sexy, and if I already didn’t know I wanted to take him home, I would at this moment.
“Your man, huh?”
“Yeah,” I say, tugging him in by the waist of his jeans. “So, I was thinking. I’m going to go tell everyone goodbye. You’re going to wait twenty minutes as to not draw suspicion and then you’re going to meet me at your place. Got it?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Shane kisses me one more time, but a sudden noise makes us jump away from each other. We look up and see Porter, who is shaking his head and laughing.
“It’s about damn time,” he says. “Now can you move so I can get into the liquor closet?”
We both laugh and start to walk away, but not before Shanegives my ass a smack. I turn back to look at him, and the smile on his face is enough to blow my cover. Well, the little cover we have left about this.
“Hey, guys,” I say. “I think I’m going to take off.”
“Oh no! Really? That’s so unexpected and sad,” Betsy says a bit dramatically. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” I say forcing down a laugh. “It was a fun night. Let’s do it again soon.”
“So fun!” Izzy screams as she walks over to me. She doesn’t strike me as a hugger, but she’s holding her arms out, so I return the gesture.
