She rolls her eyes. “Don’t I know it.”
We laugh and link arms as we walk out of the ladies’ room and back toward the restaurant. I stop mid step when I see Oliver standing in front of me, looking pretty worse for the wear, holding a sign that just has an arrow, pointing toward the door.
“Oliver?” I ask, very confused. “Are you okay?”
He shakes his head. “You’re lucky I like you.”
“Okay…”
He nods me out the door, where I’m stopped in front of Shane, holding another sign with another arrow. I look back to Oliver, then back to Shane, now seriously confused.
“What are you guys doing?”
“Just keep going,” Shane says.
I do as he says, continuing to walk through the hotel parking lot. I could either go left or stay straight, but Amelia has a sign telling me to go left. She gives me a smile and a nod as I turn, only to see Simon in front of me, a sign pointing for me to go straight. Then he holds up a finger and shows another piece of poster board. I giggle when I read what it says.
Just so you know, we’re Team Betsy.
I whisper “thank you” as he steps out of the way, letting me see where my Jeep is parked. Though even if I didn’t know exactly where it was, I couldn’t miss it right now.
It’s covered in balloons. Multi-colored streamers are flying in the wind.
And there’s Wes, standing there, somehow still looking so damn handsome even though his eyes look just as heavy as mine, standing with his own sign.
Forgive me?
Chapter41
Wes
I takein a breath as soon as I see her talking to Simon. She hasn’t looked my way yet, which gives me a few more seconds to remind myself what I need to say. And also another few seconds to panic that this isn’t going to work.
What’s taking him so long? Does he have another sign? What the fuck did he do? I’m nervous enough as it is standing here. I knew putting him last was a mistake.
I can feel the sign shaking under my fingers as I do my best to hold onto it. Then she turns my way and everything goes still.
God I’ve missed her. She looked gorgeous last night. But this morning? Barely any makeup, her hair on the top of her head and a pair of leggings that make me damn near bite my lip off? Fuck, I’ve never seen her look more beautiful.
I can’t fuck this up. Not again. I need her in my life.Weneed her.
I just hope it’s not too late.
“What’s all this?”
I let out a small laugh as I look back at her Jeep. “My friends seem to have taken a liking to decorating cars.”
She smiles. “The streamers are a nice touch.”
“Thank Shane for that.”
“You mean Oliver?”
“No,” I say, shaking my head. “Actually, we couldn’t find Oliver this morning until the last minute. The decorating was the rest of the crew, which Amelia was excited she got to be a part of this time.”
“Wow,” she says. “I don’t know what to say.”
“Don’t say anything,” I put down the sign and take a deep breath. “All you need to do is listen.”
