“Do you believe now?”
I nod, not quite sure what to say.
Until my mind comes up with an ugly, nasty thought.
“Did you just do that to snap me out of it?” I ask quietly, suddenly doubting why he did it.
Will chuckles and I turn around.
“He’s been wanting to do that for weeks,” he explains, smiling widely. “I don’t know why it’s taken him that long.”
“Yeah, he’s been too shy.” Jim laughs lightly. “Maybe now he’ll stop talking about you every minute of every day.”
Heat is flooding into my cheeks. “He’s been doing that?”
“And he’s not the only one,” Will chuckles but then winces when Jim elbows him in the ribs.
“Don’t overwhelm her,” Jim says quietly.
“Don’t patronise me,” I retort. The old Louise is back. The ghosts have fled, driven away by the kiss.
That beautiful kiss. My beautiful Han.
I turn to him, smiling. He’s been very quiet.
“Everything okay?” I ask him and he nods.
“My first kiss on Mars. I never expected to find... this... here.” He smiles. “This planet is full of surprises.”
I couldn’t agree more.
