Aiden distributes the needles, reluctantly giving me one when I glare at him. Clearly he doesn’t realize I’ll have no fucking qualms about shoving this into whoever’s in there with my sister. I’m angry at my uncle, his friends, and every sick piece of shit working for him. This ends tonight.

The hallway is the same on the second floor as it is on the first, with several open doors leading up to what must be the master bedroom at the end. We listen by the doorway for any signs of life, but they must have soundproofed these rooms or something, because I hear nothing.

I look to Aiden and Kaleb for some sign of what to do, and it’s like they’ve been having a silent conversation this whole goddamn time because they’re prepared. Kaleb opens the door quickly and we follow him inside. What we stumble upon makes me want to fucking vomit.

Bile rises in my throat as we catch Burt fucking Brandon fisting his cock while my sister sleeps on the bed. The top three buttons of her shirt are open and her skirt’s risen to her thighs, but otherwise, she’s covered. Then I notice how still she is. Why the fuck isn’t she moving?

Panic claws at my insides, and with Burt’s nasty-ass dick out, I might actually throw up all over this goddamn room. With my luck, though, that disgusting pig would only use it as lube.

Kaleb has already poked him with the needle, the plunger firmly pressed down with the syringe empty, but Burt isn’t down yet. He fumbles to get up, tripping over the pants bunched up around his ankles. I leave him for my avenging angels and focus on the only person who’s ever loved me unconditionally. Please be okay.

Her skin is warm, and I breathe a sigh of relief when I find a pulse. It’s thrumming erratically, but it’s there. Wrapping myarms around her, I hold her tightly as tears stream down my face.

“Lily,” she croaks.

When I pull back, she stares at me with glassy eyes. “I’m here, Calla. We’ve got you.” She holds onto me, squeezing hard when a thump echoes from the corner of the room. Twisting around, we find Burt collapsed on the floor, his now-soft dick resting on the floor, and I don’t even fucking think. I stand up, walk toward him, and press the heel of my foot onto his limp dick.

He sports two black eyes and a bloody nose, and I hope his fucking penis never works again after tonight.

Aiden picks up Calantha from the bed, and we’re off, rushing downstairs to freedom. I stop when I glimpse my aunt, her face set with relief at the sight of Calantha. Taking a deep breath, I reach my hand out to her and invite her to come with us, but she only shakes her head.

“It’s time I do what I should have done all those years ago. Go, be safe.”

With one last glance in her direction, we exit the barn and rush out into the night.

Free at last.

Liliana

One week later.

Birds chirp softly through the open window and light shines on the bed where Calantha and I sleep. I haven’t wanted to leave her side, not until I know without a doubt that she’s okay, but she’s almost back to her old self.

I stretch and turn to find her sitting up against the wall with a magazine in her hand.

“I love you, Lil, but if it’s all the same to you, I’d like my bed back.”

“Decapitate my heart, why don’t you. I’m in agony!” I yell, feigning upset as I head to the bathroom. Turning on the shower, I let the water get hot while I use the toilet and get undressed. I’ve been avoiding the mirror, but if Calantha has made such progress, maybe I can do this.

As I look at my reflection, my eyes zero in on the small wound on my abdomen. Thankfully, it hadn’t needed stitches and the doctor didn’t think it would scar, so that’s a relief. I don’t want any physical reminders of what Hank or Burt did to my family. It’ll heal, and so will we.

While I want to say this week has been a chance for us to unwind, it hasn’t. Between dealing with the cops over what happened with Hank at the cabin, my sister and I had been called in to testify against my uncle. Apparently, my aunt had finally come clean about what he was up to, and now my uncle and his powerful, repulsive friends would be thrown in jail. Or at least that was the hope. Who knew there was so much red tape for this type of shit?

Kaleb and Aiden had given me my space, only checking in a few times to make sure we were okay and to see if we needed anything. I was grateful to them. Not just for giving me this time, but also for being there. Things would have ended differently if they hadn’t come looking for me.

The three of us have a lot to talk about, and I’d put it off long enough. I wasn’t sure what I’d even say, since all of this was my fault. Okay, maybe not all, but most of it. They’d lied to me, but I hadn’t been completely honest with them either.

After getting dressed and braiding my wet hair, I head out to the kitchen. Kaleb and Aiden sit on the couch with my sister, holding a coffee from my favorite cafe around the corner. Calantha passes one to me.

“What are you guys doing here?” I ask, wincing at my lack of decorum. But what do they expect when they spring this on me before I’ve had my energizing nectar?

Instead of a male voice, I get Calantha’s soft one. “You’ve put off this conversation long enough. You can either go with them to discuss at their place, or I can go out and let you have the apartment. The choice is yours.”

“Sheesh, who knew you were so damn bossy?” I mutter before taking a sip of my salted caramel macchiato. “I’ll go with them. You stay here.”

The ride to the penthouse might go down in history as the most awkward drive ever. Maybe it would have been easier to have Calantha go out, but she’d been through enough already, and until things were solidified with my uncle and his deplorable friends, I didn’t trust her going out alone.

Over the last week, I had a lot of time to think about everything that happened, but one thing kept popping up more than anything else. When we were at the cabin and I was trying to find a suitable weapon to take Hank down with, I overheard Aiden say something that almost had me running back into their arms.
