Covor suddenly stilled, gaze locking on Sway’s face. He was shaking.
“They’re watching,” he croaked. “I have to get them… the females…”
Sway’s eyes narrowed. “Our females? Why-?”
With a wordless roar, Covor charged. It was sloppy and weak. Sway twisted, sticking out his foot, tripping him up. Covor fell with a loud grunt, not even trying to catch himself. Vweet, still protecting Grace, had stepped back, pushing her out of the way.
Sway, however, frowned at Covor’s back. His shirt was in tatters there too, and his back was just as scaley as his front. However, burned into those scales, branded right there where the top of his back met the base of his neck, was a symbol Sway had seen before.
An upside-down triangle, with a single line bisecting the top. A very simple sort of symbol, but one Sway was intimately familiar with. The twins, Sorbet and Tebros, had the same symbol branded onto their arms. They kept them hidden under sleeves, but Sway had known them long enough to have seen them. But the twins never told them what it meant or why they had it.
Why was that symbol on Covor’s back?
Before he could ask, Covor let out a scream. He jumped to his feet and charged, this time at Vweet and Grace. Sway charged after him, but he didn’t need to bother. Vweet turned, Grace at his back, shield at his front, putting her between him and the wall. Protecting her with a determined face.
Covor ran right past them, out into the crowded street. People screamed and made way for him as he grabbed the first female he saw. She didn’t do more than scream before Covor was beingconverged on by a group of males, all rushing to her rescue. He began roaring and screaming, fighting and struggling as he shouted more nonsense about them coming for him and how he had to get the females.
It didn’t take long for the peacekeepers to arrive, but by then, he had already been subdued by four other males. Sway and Vweet remained in the shadow of the alley, staring out in confusion.
“What was that?” Vweet asked, looking at Sway.
Sway, in turn, looked at Grace. She seemed just as lost however and could only shake her head. The three of them remained there as Covor was taken away, screaming unintelligibly now.
Chapter 38
Grace
“And then he just started screaming and yelling about someone chasing him and needing to get females. It was weird.”
Goldie, over behind the mediscanner control console frowned, as, sitting beside her, Garnet let out a long, thoughtless hum of consideration.
“When Sway reported it to Tanin,” she said, “he immediately went to go talk to the twins. I didn’t hear the conversation, but Tanin is just saying it has to do with their past. But no one will tell me what it is.”
“It’s not like them to keeps secrets from us,” Grace frowned. “I mean, at least not something like this. What do you think it is?”
“I don’t know,” Garnet blew out a breath. “Tanin says it won’t be a problem though. I trust him.”
“I guess,” Goldie agreed, though she looked a bit uncertain.
But Gace could only nod in agreement. She understood completely. She wasn’t really scared of the universe, no matter what it might hold. Why would she be? She had her own personal monster to protect her from it.
They swung back into subspace yesterday and were on their way to their next job. While in subspace, they didn’t have access to the subnet, which meant that Grace couldn’t really work. Meanwhile, Sway was up on the bridge, doing the calculations for their next swing already. So, she had a lot of free time on her hands without him.
She was using that time to help Goldie. Garnet’s twin sister was the official medical officer of the Humble Delivery Service. However, her certs were all faked. They’d forged them for the sake of getting human bio scans for their mediscanner.
Goldie had been in vet school on Earth though, so she was trying to learn advanced medicine using a combination of online modules Alred would find for her and basic trial and error.
That’s what Grace was here for. She was lying on the medscanner bed, letting Goldie try to restart her ovulation. It was a specialty process that, typically, was rarely used. Humans were much more fertile than most species, so humans were the only ones who frequently used birth control. Grace had it done before she ever left the moon. She hadn’t had a period in years at this point because she’d just put pause on the whole system.
The only other person Goldie had to practice on was Garnet, but she was already pregnant. She could practice on herself, but it would be much more difficult to do so from the bed, if not outright impossible.
So, Grace was here, letting her learn, waiting for the restoration of her fertility. Sway already knew she was doing this. It had taken some convincing to make him go to the bridge so that the girls could work and chat in peace.
And in the way of gossipy ladies from time immemorial, they started talking about the guys on the ship. Particularly Taninand Sway, since they were their mates. They quickly went from comparing how stone cold their mates could be to their different dicks. And as freaked out as Garnet had been by the thing on Sway’s cock that pushed its way into her cervix when he came, Grace was equally freaked out by the fact that Tanin’s shaft was covered in spikes.
Goldie laughed at their discomfort before admitting that she’d looked up the anatomy of all the guys on the ship and she knew which guy had two cocks, which one had a knot, etc. All except Alred, whose species was purely technological. His light form was like a mannequin – nude and male in shape but otherwise neutered.
“You know, my species has scans of our original biological forms,” the male in question said, popping up beside them in a shower of sparks, speaking perfect English as they had been just in case the guys wandered by.
