“What?”

“So, a properly mated male gets… huge?” She asked, ignoring his question at her grumbled statement.

“Er, yes,” he frowned, trying to puzzle out what she meant, but not reluctant to answer her questions first. “It’s an accelerated growth spurt that our bodies are designed to go through once mated. It makes us bigger, stronger, more capable of protecting our mate and young.”

“That’s pretty cool,” she admitted with some reluctance, though he didn't know why.

“Senior Boktare is something of a political rival of mine,” Tsok continued despite the sudden sense of unease that began twisting in his belly. Like something was wrong, though he wasn’t entirely sure what that could be. “He is opposed to the efforts and strides I’ve made towards making mating a more common, socially acceptable thing in our society.”

Misty frowned and, for the first time all night, actually looked at him. And while her bright eyes were so incredibly beautiful, somehow her gaze hurt. And he didn't understand why.

“Wait, he’s against mating?” She asked.

“Most of my people are. It’s considered a backwards, primitive way to go about reproducing. There is a growing movement towards returning to the old ways – with some safety precautions in place, of course. It’s new but gaining momentum. I am trying to spearhead that movement. Traditionalists like Boktare are standing against me and trying to keep to our current ways.”

She blinked at him. “Okay, I’m just going to ignore the fact that the idea of ‘traditional’ reproduction isn’t the good old fashioned in and out.”

“What?”

“Let’s go back to the fact that he’s mated. And he’sagainstmating. That doesn’t seem just a little bit hypocritical to you?”

Tsok’s ear dropped and he leaned down to whisper to her. “They are not mated by choice. It was a mistake that he scented her and triggered their bond. They are quite fond of each other, but the beginning of their mating was not a happy one.”

“Oh…” She mumbled, her cheeks darkening.

“It is alright,” he assured her quickly. “You didn't know. That is why he stands opposed to me. Mating is dangerous. It is barbaricin its way. There is no one who would know that better than one who was mated against their will.”

“He doesn’t look barbaric to me. Neither do you. I guess the barbarism comes after…” Her voice trailed off, as though waiting for him to fill in the gap.

“The scenting,” he finished. “That is why we wear the filters. The moment we scent our mates for the first time, it kicks off a series of reactions within the body that will result in my accelerated growth, your enhanced fertility, and a… let’s call it an irresistible urge.”

“Urge to what?”

He leaned down, putting his muzzle right next to her ear, and whispered-

“Breed.”

Chapter 11

Misty

Aliens are not as fertile as humans.

That was one of the things written in the pamphlet she had been given to study before she left Earth’s general vicinity – she had already been on one of the Coalition satellite ships, just waiting for her transport out here. She read up on the species she was mating into, but, infuriatingly, it included very little information about the mating process. Only that her mate would, ‘guide her through it’. Very unhelpful. When she asked Ambassador Tzomei, he told her that it was likely because the species in question, the kreecharma, didn't actually know that much about their own mating practices and what they did know they didn't broadcast.

Of course, since she never actually got to talk to her mate at all, he wasn’t there to guide her through anything.

But that was just half of her pamphlet – the half written by the species she was joining. The other half was a general Coalition introduction that Ambassador Tzomei had a hand in authoring. It was a little more informative, but not by much because itwas still expected that her mate would be doing the bulk of her introduction to his species and the universe as a whole.

In the pamphlet, humans were described as a highly fertile, highly populous species, and she was warned that this was not common in the universe. Most species needed specific circumstances to breed, others couldn’t breed without being mated first, and others still had such a hard time, their species were outright on the decline. Humans were considered incredibly fertile amongst their own species, but when paired with an alien male, human females were considered super fertile.

There was a big emphasis on having kids and the importance of reproduction out amongst the Coalition species that humans didn't have. She was well aware of that. She read all about it and even accepted that her alien sugar daddy might want an heir immediately – or something. Did kreecharma even inherit through bloodlines? She’d say that Tsok had never mentioned his family, but Tsok had never mentionedanythingto her, so that was meaningless. She didn't actually know, but she’d been ready for the possibility to be brought up soon after her arrival. She’d even been kind of turned on. She didn't want to have kids with a guy she had just met, but she couldn’t lie and say that it wasn’t feeding into her kinks.

But nothing had ever gotten her so hot and horny as the moment that Tsok leaned down, his breath tickling her ear, whispering to her like it was a salacious secret-

“Breed.”

She shivered, almost missing a step as her knees went weak. That was, unfortunately, the moment they got in front of Boktare and his mate for their turn to greet them. But she couldn’t even focus because her suddenly burning pussy was demanding he make good on that promise right now.
