‘I don’t know … I don’t think I want to uproot everything to move right next door to them, but being a little closer would be nice. They were nice, right?’

‘Really nice.’ I was flattered she was asking my advice about such a big decision. ‘Would you consider moving around here and continuing to work for Love Adventuring Lapland?’

‘Perhaps,’ she answered. ‘If they’d have me.’

‘I think you should speak to Daan, tell him what you’re thinking and scope out his thoughts. You don’t have to agree to anything, but at least it would give you some time to think about it all if you had the information already.’ I watched her mull this over, swirling her drink as snow lightly tippy-tapped on the window pane. ‘Sooner rather than later, and all that.’

She narrowed her eyes at me and smirked. ‘Are you using my own advice against me?’

‘Maybe a little.’

Esteri sighed. ‘It would just be a big change, you know? My family all lived in Turku so I’ve always gone back there. But I love it up here.’

‘And you still can go back there. You wouldn’t be leaving for ever; you could still visit. It wouldn’t be like you were trying to push the memories away, just accepting them and moving forward.’

‘So you think I should do it?’

‘I think so, if it would make you happy.’

‘Would you visit?’

Would I come back out to Lapland again, to the land of Christmas? ‘Yes, of course.’
