Before Lucas could answer me, Davi shook his head. ‘No, you cannot use that arm. Will you let Lucas do the rest of the driving?’

I mean, I shouldn’t really, since they’d specifically requested that I do the bulk of the leading, but as my arm throbbed and I considered the amount of pull and control I was supposed to have to drive the husky sled, I felt myself relenting. I looked at Lucas. ‘Would you mind? I know you wanted to mainly be passengers, so I’ll be sure to arrange a refund—’

‘Are you kidding?’ Lucas replied, practically running backaround to the back of the sled. ‘I would actually love to. When will I ever get the chance to do this again?’

Davi helped me onto the sled with him, being careful with my arm, and added, ‘Instead of a refund, maybe we could just get an extra ten minutes with the puppies back at the farm?’

‘You can stay around and help with feeding time, if you want,’ I said, full of gratitude (and still a little embarrassed at my fall and my loud yelp).

Once again, I settled back behind Davi and watched twelve furry husky bottoms lead the way around the curve of the path, their tails high in the air, their legs scampering along. The small bumps slightly twinged at my shoulder, but it was OK.

But what did it mean for my job?
