Morgan shook her head. “We’re in the clear. Talk!”
Amanda handed her a coffee and settled on the couch, telling Morgan all about the run in at the deli and meeting Will on the ferry.
“I really appreciate the dramatic retelling of the coffee incident in person,” Morgan said. “I mean, it was funny through text, but just seeing you look like this.” She waved a hand in front of Amanda. “And hearing the whole thing really adds to it.”
Amanda laughed. “Yeah, whatever. I had a rough day. But listen – this next part is important.”
She told Morgan about Will, his business and the lie she told him about her dad’s house.
“Okay, so first of all, are you sure that Will isn’t like…closewith Lenny?”
Amanda shrugged. “Pretty sure. It was obvious that when they met in the deli, Lenny was meeting him for the first time. And he was all business.”
“Who does business in a deli?” Morgan mused.
The mob. But Amanda couldn’t tell Morgan that. “Will, apparently.”
“We’d better look him up online just to be safe.”
Morgan pulled out her phone and searched for Will Harrington. She easily found his entry on the DGG company website, as well as a personal account where he had posted some pictures – they were mostly from what looked like work events.
“Oh, he’scute!” said Morgan. “Are you sure that you only wanted to talk to him because of Lenny, or were you just looking for a reason to see him again?”
“Absolutely not. I don’t find men who work with people like Lenny attractive.”
“Are you sure?” Morgan zoomed in on a picture. “Look at him in this tuxedo! Hubba hubba!”
“Ugh, gross. Don’t be fooled by a tuxedo, Morgan. He was quite proud of being a money-hungry, morally apathetic, finance-centric leach.”
“Them’s fightin’ words!” Morgan said with a giggle. “Tiffany used to work in finance, didn’t she?”
“She’s different.” Amanda paused. How could she explain how she felt about this? It wasn’t likeallfinance people were bad. It was just...him. Or anyone who would work with Lenny. “Itisa fight! He probably wants to turn the entire island into a big hotel. He doesn’t care about San Juan. Look who he’s working with!”
“I’m not arguing with you,” said Morgan. “But you at least have to admit that he’s cute.”
“I will not.”
“Come on.”
“No! He’s not cute.”
“He is. He’s a cutie.”
“Not to me.” Amanda said simply, standing up to toss her coffee cup into the trash.
“All right, so what’s our next move? Are you going to tell your dad that you saw Lenny?”
“I don’t know,” said Amanda with a sigh. She felt guilty that she couldn’t tell Morgan the truth about Lenny – that he actuallywasin the mob, and Margie’s brother Mike was supposed to be keeping an eye on him through the FBI. Oh,andthat she was sworn to secrecy.
Maybe she would reach out to Mike herself? Just to let him know that she was on to something?
But she didn’t have any contact information for him. She’d have to ask Connor and then…
“I bet your dad would love to know that Lenny is messing around on the island again.”
“Yeah, you’re right. I could tell him, but I’m sure that he’ll tell me to stay out of it. And hereallywon’t like that I’m pretending to sell his house.”
“Yeah, those are all good points.” Morgan frowned. “Maybe you shouldn’t tell him.”
