Now Biggles was his one and only accomplice. They walked out of the apartment after Mike carefully checked that no one was coming. He would’ve preferred to take the stairs, but Biggles didn’t do well with steps and they were on the twenty-fifth floor. He wasn’t in the mood to run down that many flights, either.
Mike picked Biggles up, went down two flights of stairs, and then went to wait at the elevators on that floor, hoping they wouldn’t run into Lenny.
They stood at the elevator and when the doors popped open, Mike waited a moment before walking over. It didn’t seem that anyone was there…until he heard that familiar voice.
“I’m telling you, I saw her! I bet she followed me, I bet she’s looking for me! How do you know that she’s not following me?”
Mike realized his mistake – this elevator was goingup. It would be too suspicious to back out now, though. He kept his head down. He had on a hat and fake mustache, which was decent, but they were awfully close for such a light disguise.
They got to Lenny’s floor and there was a moment where he stopped talking on the phone, seemingly studying Biggles. Mike stood, eyes focused on the ground.
“Dude,” Lenny said as he walked off of the elevator, “your dogstinks.”
Mike smiled to himself and said nothing. The elevator doors closed and thankfully, they started moving down the building.
Biggles dropped whatever had been in his mouth, apparently tired of keeping up the ruse.
Mike bent down to see what it was. It looked like a key fob for a car, but it was strange. There was no emblem, the entire case was black.
He studied it, noticing a small pinhole near the unlock button.
If he didn’t know any better, he’d guess that this was a hidden camera.
“Good job, Biggles,” Mike said, patting him on the head.
The doors opened again and Biggles took the first step out.
