Amanda wanted to say something, apologize for being so harsh about Lenny and the mob. She wasn’t sure exactlywhatto say, but she had to try.

“Listen, about – ”

And his phone rang. Of course.

“Oh, don’t mind me, you should answer.”

He smiled, and had a quick conversation before hanging up. “Sorry about that. My landscaper asked if I fell into a well.”

She laughed. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to monopolize your time with my babbling. You should get back to it.”

“It wasn’t babbling,” he said. “I like talking to you.”

What else was there to say? The man needed to get back to work. She stood up and dusted off her pants. “Thanks a lot for this, Will. I…really appreciate it.”

“Any time.”

Amanda folded up the blanket and handed it to him. Should she suggest that they hang out again? Maybe she could get him fish and chips as a thank you?

She’d figure it out later, he needed to get going.

“Good luck with the estate!” she said, forcing a smile.

“Ah – thanks. Take care.”

She watched him disappear before walking into the greenhouse to find Sue and Paul. She felt lighter than she had in weeks. Normally, she would’ve felt embarrassed for crying in front of someone – especially someone like Will. But she didn’t feel embarrassed at all.

Something within her had snapped. All that crying served a purpose, it seemed. There’d been a leak in the dam; and now, it was fully cracked open.
