This was the moment. This was when he needed to tell her how he felt.
“Amanda, I – ”
He was cut short by a voice and a rough grab on his shoulder. “Will! I thought that was you!”
Lenny. Great timing buddy.
Will turned around to shake his hand. “Hey Lenny.”
“Good to see you too. How’s it going?”
Will nodded. “Good, very good. Let me introduce you to my friend – ”
He turned, but Amanda was nowhere to be seen.
He paused. “Hm, not sure where she went.”
“Yeah, where is your pretty friend?” Lenny said. “I was hoping for a dance with her myself.”
Ha. Will could only imagine what Amanda would say to that. “I’m not sure. She just – disappeared.”
Lenny frowned. “How do you know this girl?”
“She’s…” Will faltered. He wasn’t about to tell Lenny his life story. “One of my new clients.”
“I bet I know where she went.” With that, Lenny walked off.
That was an odd thing to say. No wonder Amanda disappeared – there were predators all around this ballroom. He stepped off of the dance floor and looked for her.
He was about to take the stairs to the upper balcony when his phone buzzed in his pocket. A text from her.
“Will, I’m so sorry. I have to go. Thank you for the nice evening.”
