Amanda’s eyes widened. She never in her wildest dreams would ask him a question like that, but she should have expected that he might ask her. “I’m not, no.”

“I had to ask. I probably should’ve asked before I made the trip across the world, but here we are.”

She laughed. “Yes, here we are. And you? Are you – ?”

He shook his head. “Nope. I’m hoping to spend some time here. Reconnect with old friends.”

“What other old friends do you have in Seattle besides me?”

He smiled, shaking his head. “You’ve got me there.”

Amanda laughed, covering her mouth with her hand. Same old Rupert. Always trying to say a thing without saying it. He was the most direct, indirect person that she knew. “Well, I hope that I can fill that role for you.”

“I think you already have.”

Her heart swelled. There was no need for him to spell it out, and no need for her to ask pushy questions. It seemed clear that Rupert had changed his mind about their relationship after all.
