Morgan frowned. “Ah, okay. Have you heard from Chet recently?”

“Nope, can’t say that I have. I’m sure he’s planning some sort of a comeback, though.”

Morgan laughed. “Can’t keep him down for long. Well – thanks anyway. And thanks again for helping Luke! He’s having the time of his life.”

“It’s been great having him here.”

“That’s good. Because despite what he might tell you, Idomiss him.

“Oh wait, actually, I have heard a little bit about Chet.”

“Yeah?”

“Well not about him, exactly. But his dad – John Benzini?”

Morgan pulled her laptop in front of her and typed his name into a search. “Did he work on the movie too?”

“No. It’s kind of weird, I picked him up from the airport once. I thought he was involved with the movie somehow, but he never was. Not that I saw. He was super nice.”

“Is he a director or something?”

“No. He’s not involved in movies at all. He popped up kind of randomly, actually. There was this story about people being held at the US-Canadian border for hours when trying to travel. And I was worried that we might get stuck there sometime when we were driving through.”

“Oh that would stink.”

“Yeah, it hasn’t happened but you know, I try to leave time for it. But anyway, I saw this news story with a senator who was promising to help anyone who had issues there, so I wrote his name down, but the weird thing was that on the news I saw him with Mr. Benzini!”

Morgan frowned. “So Chet’s dad is a politician?”

“No, he’s like a consultant or something. I guess it makes sense. It must’ve made him really wealthy, because Chet had expensive tastes.”

“Yeah, that’s for sure.”

“Sorry I can’t be of more help – but I have to run. Here’s Luke!”

She talked to Luke for another half hour before he had to go, too. He was supposed to stay in Vancouver for another few weeks. Morgan felt like she might lose her mind before then, but she kept that to herself.

At least now she had something to occupy her thoughts. Morgan did feel bad that she bugged Teresa about Lenny. Clearly she didn’t know anything, other than the fact that Chet came from a rich family. That was hardly a shock; the guy had his head permanently in the clouds.

The next day, Morgan had plans to get lunch with Margie and Jade. Even though she was busy with work, Morgan made an extra effort to plan social activities now that Luke was gone.

When they got into the car, Morgan told Jade about Amanda’s run-in with Lenny and their new scheme.

Predictably, Jade didn’t approve, immediately stating, “I don’t like this.”

“I know, but don’t you think it’s weird that Lenny is working with a company to buy properties on the island?”

Jade shrugged. “Maybe. Maybe not. What if he just decided it was a good investment opportunity?”

Morgan scoffed. “Oh come on, you have to realize that there’s more to Lenny than they’re telling us.”

“I don’t know anything, I’ve already told you. And if I did – I wouldn’t tell you anyway!”

“Come on now, that’s not true.” Morgan studied her for a moment, but Jade didn’t flinch. “We have to work together.”

“I’ve got way too much going on – between work and opening the park, I don’t have the energy to start scheming with you.”

Morgan sighed. “But what if Lenny really is involved with the mob? What if – ”
