He jumped up, grazed her arm, and said, “Wait for me.”

When he came back to the bedroom, she was gazing out the window. He ran his fingertips down her arm, took her hand, and said, “Come here, love.”

Georgia turned to face him, and they started kissing heatedly. She began kissing his chest and working her way down, dropping to her knees, and taking him in her mouth. “Oh my God,” he moaned. Roo held her head as she moved back and forth, and he moved in rhythm with her, his moans louder and louder. She rose, turned around, and leaned forward, her hands on the bed. He stood behind her, grabbed her hips, and slid into her gently, before he began thrusting. “More, more,” she begged. He pounded harder and harder as she was screaming in ecstasy, until he exploded with bliss.

They both tried to catch their breath. Eventually, she turned to him and he scooped her up in his arms, carried her to the small love seat, and sat down with her in his lap. He looked at her with total adoration and said, “I could make love to you morning, noon, and night.”

“Me too. My body is still trembling.”

“Mine too.”

“Do you want to spend the rest of the day here, with me?” she asked.

“Darling, I want to spend the rest of my life here with you, but today is a start.”

They talked about their lives for hours. Georgia shared parts of her journal, which she had never done with anyone before. Roo told her about his new play in which “a man falls for an extraordinarily beautiful woman and becomes a bumbling fool because he can hardly speak around her.”

After making love for a third time, Roo eventually said, “We should probably make ourselves presentable for dinner. But I was thinking later, if it’s alright with you, perhaps I could get some of my things and stay with you.”

“It’s alright with me,” she said.

He smiled. “Good. That makes it easier to tear myself out of your bed. Shall we have a shower before we head down?”

“Uh-huh. Roo, do you think Jean and Michael will know . . .”

“Yes, probably, I suppose. They usually get back from the set well before we had our last go-around, and we were quite loud, and the walls are quite thin.”

“Oh,” she said.

“Darling, please don’t be embarrassed. I doubt they’ll care very much, and we can be professional on set. Besides, I was haunted by our upcoming love scene. I couldn’t imagine kissing you for the cameras when I so badly wanted to do it in private.”

She smiled. “Let’s shower.” He kissed the tip of her nose and they started to get out of bed when she added, “I’m not embarrassed. I couldn’t be embarrassed about being with you.”

He smiled and said, “Come on, love.”

Freshly showered and dressed, they bounded downstairs and found Jean and Michael in the dining room enjoying a cocktail. The two men started clapping when the young couple walked into the room.

“So, what have you two been up to? Make good use of your day off?” Michael asked.

“Rehearsing for your big scene perhaps?” Jean added, before bursting into laughter.

Georgia’s face turned bright red.

Roo grabbed her hand and they sat at the table.

“You guys are terrible,” Georgia said.

“Oh, relax. We’re just teasing,” Michael said. “We did the same thing to your folks after they hooked up. We teased them mercilessly. Look how that turned out. Thirty years later, they’re still together. Probably a good omen for you two. Maybe you’re following in their footsteps.”

Roo smiled and slung his arm around Georgia. She smiled along for show, a lump in the shape of Michael’s words forming in her throat.

CHAPTER 8

“You’ve been working nonstop for hours. Don’t you want to take a break or at least stand up and stretch?” Betty asked, hovering in the bathroom doorway.

“Nope. I’m good,” Khalil replied, wiping his brow.

“I feel so guilty that I roped you into helping me with my little DIY project on your first weekend off in ages, and now you’re doing most of the work.”
