My eyes went to my man who was still stubbornly holding out.

“Angel . . .”

His head shook. “You’re asking me to go against my gut. My nature. You’re asking me to risk your happiness and peaceof mind. Carson don’t need me to do anything for him but that’s just how we are behind each other. For you? I’ll turn this whole fucking city red. You’re asking me to wait and see if an unstable person will come at you again. Someone that’s proven he’s selfish and doesn’t care about going after what he wants regardless of the consequences. You understand what you’re asking of me, right?”

“Yes, and I know it’s a big ask. Please do this for me, baby. Please. I know Destin. He isn’t as dumb as he’s acting. Once he calms down and realizes who y’all are and what’s at stake, he will back down.” My eyes shifted in my brother’s direction. “Ty, you know Destin backed down after you beat him up. Tell them.”

His head shook as he released a heavy breath. “I hate to admit it but she’s right. He has a lot of bark but he’s really weak. After I beat his ass on what was supposed to be their wedding day he left her alone. He talked shit on social media, but he stayed away from me and acted like he was blind when we were in the same space. And he didn’t start bothering her until the gala.

“I think the possessiveness he’s feeling is coming from seeing her move on. For the past year, he’s been in his own state of bliss. Seeing a woman you fumbled happy and in her prime is enough to make even the most stable man go off his rocker. I can honestly say that he’s not a threat—at all.”

“Aight,” Tristan conceded. “But I meant what I said at the office. If he comes back around, that’s it, Taj. For real.”

“Ooh I know you’re serious because you called me by my real name,” I teased, hoping it would lighten his mood. I gripped his jaw and kissed him like I knew he liked to further soften him until Tyler acted like he was so disgusted, making us all laugh.

After thanking Tristan for agreeing, I left them to their guy time, feeling a bit more at peace and confident that Destin would remain in the land of the living.

March

Taj’s birthday seemed like the perfect time to get our families together. I planned a birthday party for her and invited my crew and my family. Her mom, brother, and Emilia came, and we showered my baby with love. She was so happy and light all day, and I was glad I had something to do with that.

Things had been peaceful since the Destin situation. Like Taj said, karma served him real quick. Trenae cheated on him and gave him chlamydia. Instead of him handling it privately, he went live on social media while he confronted her. Things got physical, and since it was on social media, he didn’t bother going to trial. It was just like a bitch for him to hit a woman but not stand up to men.

He pled guilty and was currently serving a twelve month sentence. There was a chance he could get out within three to six months since it was his first offense, but any amount of time for a man like him would be enough to make sure he acted right when he got out.

Trenae wasted no time filing for divorce. Ironically, she came to our firm trying to get representation. I sent her to Adams andCo. because even though I didn’t want to help her, I couldn’t completely leave her to fend for herself. Destin wasn’t the kind of man any woman needed to be attached to. I felt like she was trying to hurt my sweetheart when she reached out to her the night before their wedding, but in doing so, she did me a solid.

Who knows what would have happened if Trenae remained silent. Taj may have married him and ended up in a situation like her mom. The fact that she was with me made me feel like I owed Trenae’s messy ass a solid, and that’s why I made sure she had a good divorce lawyer.

“Aight, y’all. It’s time for me to give my sweetheart her last gift before it gets too dark out,” I announced, gaining everyone’s attention.

She was in the middle of a conversation with Emilia and Serenity, but she made her way over to me.

“Baby, I genuinely don’t need anything else. Just you giving me this party is enough. And you already gave me gifts.”

“I hear you, but I have something else for you. Are you ready to see it?”

“If you insist,” she said with a low, sing-songy voice.

Chuckling, I took her by the hand and led her outside. My eyes locked with Tyler, and he nodded and confirmed that he was recording. During one of our conversations, she mentioned her dream car was a Porsche 911. She already had a G Wagon and loved the Mercedes line, but if she got anything different, she said it would be a Porsche.

When we stepped outside and she saw the Brabus 900 Peetch, she screamed. It was a modified version of the Porsche 911 with a peach interior and exterior. I couldn’t lie, the peach on peach was sexy as fuck, and it fit her perfectly. I originally planned to get her the regular Porsche, but seeing the Peetch and that it was her favorite color made that the better choice for me.

“Oh my God,” she cried, getting weak at the knees. I had to literally grab her and keep her up. “That’s for me?” Her eyes were wide as she looked from the car to me.

“All yours, sweetheart.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!” she sobbed, tossing her arms around my neck. “Oh Jesus! I love it! I absolutely love it!”

I laughed as she covered my face with kisses. She cupped my cheeks and kissed me deeply. I only pulled away because my dick was getting hard.

“Let’s go for a ride,” she suggested.

“You’re gonna leave your party, bae?”

“We’ll be back!”
