“Silence, mortal,” he hisses. “You must pay for your disobedience.”

With that, he tosses me onto the silk sheets.

My body trembles as he climbs onto the bed beside me, his cold blue eyes searching my face as he secures me beneath him.

I’m pinned in place as his hands move along my curves, forcing his way between my legs. I can’t move, can’t speak as he stares down at me with a cocky grin, and I know that this is it.

This is the end.

But then fight fills my body.

I will not allow him to just take me.

Thrashing about, I try to escape his grip. Bucking my hips against him does nothing to shift his weight off of me, but it is enough to frustrate him. After a moment, his hands reach for my wrists to jerk them up over my head, further pinning me to the bed.

Still, I don’t let this stop me from continuing my fight. If he thinks I will make this easy, then he has another thing coming.

Tears sting my eyes as he moves my wrists together, freeing one hand to run down over my body. Grabbing the neckline of my nightgown, he tears it open to expose my breasts to him, and I still continue to twist away from him as I best can.

He growls in frustration that I’ve yet to submit to him.

His anger only seems to grow now the more I fight him, but he refuses to give up. His hand slips to my waist, where he grabs a hand full of my dress and yanks it further up.

I thrash as much as I can, not that it does me any good. He still moves my skirts out of the way all too easily.

“No,” I gasp as his hand slips between my thighs.

His lips pull into a triumphant grin as he shifts atop me, just enough for him to remove himself from his pants. I try to use the moment to gain some freedom, but it’s not enough as he releases my wrists to close his hand over my throat, choking me even as his weight returns to my body all too soon.

I claw at his hand as I struggle to breathe, but even I know what comes next.

Cold dread pools in my stomach as he moves to adjust himself and I brace for what he’s about to take from me.

But before he can steal what he wants from me, the doors to the room explode into a thousand pieces.

Shrapnel rains down on us, most of it pelting Hades as it burrows its way into his skin. He lets out a roar of rage and pain as he turns to see who’s come to interrupt us.

Taking the opportunity to scramble a few inches back, I glance around him to see the figure framed in the gaping hole where the doors once were.

Standing there with inky black shadows surging up around him is Death.

My Death.

Death

Afury unlike anything I have ever known rises within me at the sight before me.

Power and rage course through my veins, mixing with the very essence of my being. I want nothing more than this man’s death.

Striding further into the room I feel the power pouring from me, feeding the shadows that swirl around me. My form grows with each step, the dark power within me growing more set on vengeance and bloodshed by the second.

“Hades,” I say, my voice booming through the room. “Release her to me.”

“Or what?” Hades questions. “You forget yourself, Death. This is my kingdom, and she does not leave without my permission.”

He sounds more than a little irate as he removes himself from the bed and Hazel. Standing in what I think he means to be intimidating, I have to fight back a laugh.
