"At himself." Jacob sighed. "I told him he's not responsible, but he's mad. He's saying he should be more alert."

Gibson shook his head. "I need to install some cameras and outside lights for her."

"I'd say that's a great idea. These old houses are kind of sitting ducks if criminals have any kind of powers of observation. So far it seems like there's someone with a hard-on for your girl."

Given what they'd just done, Gibson didn't like the comment. Not at all.

"You think this is personal."

Jacob cleared his throat. "You heard that in my voice?"

"Kind of." Gibson hated thinking of it. "What makes you think-"

"Look, I don't want to say it over the phone." He sighed and huffed out a breath. "I know I probably shouldn't be telling you this..."

"I'm coming back with her, Jake. I'm going to hear it then. Just say it."

"We got back the DNA we collected from the break in."

"DNA?" Gibson frowned at that. "I didn't see any blood on the scene. What-"

He stopped short knowing exactly what kind of DNA Jacob was talking about.

"Something Kay found?”

Jacob cleared his throat. “She bagged it up and called the Crime Scene Unit. They sent someone to pick it up."

Gibson hadn’t known about it, but he could understand why Kay didn’t tell him. It can’t have been easy for her to find… the evidence in her house. Clenching his teeth, Gibson ground out a few words. “What about the DNA?"

"It doesn't come back to anyone in the CODIS database."

"So the guy doesn't have a record."

Another sucked in breath and a hiss and Gibson wanted to reach through the phone and smack him.

"What?"

"It just means that the guy hasn't committed a certain level of crime before this. We have a bunch of crimes that we can investigate and prosecute without any DNA collection."

"That doesn't make me feel any better, Jacob."

"Yeah, well. It doesn't make me all that happy either, man. But it is what it is." A female voice came through the phone and Gibson narrowed his eyes as he tried to pick up the words she was saying.

"What's that?"

"Nothing you need to know right now. It's one of the officers canvasing the neighborhood for any witnesses or door cameras. Look, if you can get an earlier flight back-"

"Yeah, I have a feeling that once I tell her, she's going to want to move the flight up. Is there anything else you want her to know?"

"No, man. Maybe you should let me tell her the DNA thing, yeah?"

Gibson thought about it for a moment but shook his head. "I'm going to tell her if she asks Jake. I'm not about to keep a secret from her if she asks about it."

"Yeah. Okay." Jacob sighed. "Be there for her, Gibson. This... this whole thing can't be easy to hear. Even more to get through."

"Yeah. I hear you. I've got this, Jake. Thanks for the call."

"Later, Gibson. Call me when you're in Center City."
