Kay nodded slowly, her mind whirling around and around looking for a way out.
What was she going to do?
It wasn't just Chuck's actions that were worrying her, it was the look on his face and the things that Chuck was saying that were scaring her.
She knew the first step was checking on his father.
"Your father is in the kitchen?"
Chuck stared at her with widened eyes. "Where else do you think he'd be?"
Kay nodded and started to walk to the kitchen. She didn't completely turn her back on Chuck, walking almost sideways with one foot crossing over the other and then a step to the side. She moved as fast as she could toward the kitchen.
"Mister Franklin?"
She heard a noise in the kitchen, but not a voice.
She picked up her steps in speed, but that only made her stumble as the toe of her shoe caught against the back of her leg.
"Careful."
She turned her head as Chuck grabbed her arm, keeping her on her feet.
She nodded and hoped that he'd let go, but he didn't, practically hauling her beyond the counter and into the back of the BBQ restaurant.
The instant her eyes adjusted to the darker space her heart dropped.
"Charles!"
Kay tried to go to him, but Chuck's hold on her arm tightened. It was bruising.
She turned toward him. "Let go!"
"That's what my dad said, Kay. He didn't want me to want you anymore."
"He... what?"
Chuck leaned in until he was just a couple of inches away from her nose. "He doesn't think I should love you."
She didn't know what was more upsetting, his words or the smell of alcohol on his breath.
He leaned and she didn't know why until his lips touched hers.
She had to fight off the urge to vomit, but she couldn't stop the instinctual urge of her body. She gagged and her head turned away from him forcefully.
His lips slid onto her cheek, a streak of saliva painting her skin.
She didn't see his reaction, but she felt it.
He grabbed a hold of her arms and shook her hard.
So hard she felt nauseous, and her head started to ache.
"Is this about... that guy?"
The world swam in front of her eyes, but she could still smell the alcohol on his breath and feel his fingers biting into her arms.
"Chuck, stop."
