“How could she resist?” Ricky moaned. “He’s so hot! Don’t you think so?”
“He’s handsome,” Cameron admitted. “But not my type.”
Ricky peered at him in suspicion. “How could henotbe?”
Cameron shrugged. “I like skinny guys. And a nice friendly smile.”
“Oh. What does Mindy like? Besides reading to someone else’s boyfriend.”
Cameron laughed. “She’s only readingWest Side Storyto him so he understands the plot of the play. Something tells me it’s not exactly setting his loins on fire.”
Ricky managed a smirk. “What exactly are loins anyway?”
“I don’t know, but if a loincloth covers them, I figure it refers to a guy’s private parts.”
“But which parts exactly? Does it make sense to ask someone to suck your loins?”
Cameron laughed. “I’ll try that on Anthony sometime. He’s a word nerd. He’ll know what to do.”
“And then I’ll ask him for details afterwards, like always.”
Cameron stopped walking. “You’re kidding.”
“Nope.” Ricky’s head whipped around suddenly. “Hey! I’m in the woods!”
“That’s right.”
“And I’m not scared!”
Cameron studied him but was none the wiser. “Ricky?”
“Yeah?”
“You’re really weird.”
“Oh.” Ricky pushed his glasses farther up his nose self-consciously. “Is that a bad thing?”
“Not at all,” Cameron said as he resumed walking.
Ricky glanced around again before hurrying to keep up. “I usually get freaked out by wooded areas. It’s called xylophobia. My mom looked it up for me once.”
Cameron snorted. “Sounds more like you’d be afraid of xylophones.”
“That’s what I told her!” Ricky said with a grin. “I wonder why I’m not scared now. Maybe it’s because I feel so safe around you.”
“Do you really?”
Ricky nodded. “I feel that way around Diego too, but with you it’s more like being… I don’t know. Comfortable.”
“Oh good,” Cameron said, feigning pride. “I’m like an old couch.”
“That I’d like to sit on,” Ricky said with a naughty smile. “You know… People come to these woods to make out.”
Cameron cocked an eyebrow. “Are you flirting with me?”
“Yes.” Ricky puffed up his chest. “If Diego can flirt with other people, then so can I!” He deflated again. “But don’t worry. I’ll explain everything to Anthony so you don’t get in trouble.”
“Somehow I don’t think he’ll mind,” Cameron said ruefully.
