“The Divinyls!” Silvia exclaimed. “I couldn’t remember who the song was by. It was driving me crazy!”

“If he ever comes in to the record store, you have to start playing it,” Mindy said. “Promise!”

“I really will,” Silvia said with a titter.

“Hey, you know what we should do next?” Mindy asked when they reached the truck. “Let’s go surprise Omar.”

“Why?”

“It’s the perfect way to reassess. You mostly only see him at work, which isn’t the most romantic environment. Just imagine how exciting it will be to meet him in the middle of the night!”

Silvia didn’t see what difference that would make. Although… “Anthony is staying with him.”

“Even better!” Mindy said, still giddy from their adventure. “Nobody knows where we are. This feels cool. Doesn’t it? Let’s go!”

Why not? Maybe this would provide her with answers. They drove to Omar’s neighborhood and parked down the street just as they’d done at Ricky’s house, although they didn’t try to be as stealthy when reaching the yard.

“Which window is his?” Mindy asked.

Silvia pointed. “See the balcony on the second floor?”

“Are you kidding me?” Mindy’s voice was dripping with envy. “I wouldloveto have my own balcony.”

“Tell me about it.”

“How are we supposed to throw rocks at his window? This makes it way harder.”

“We need a slingshot,” Silvia murmured. “The lights are off anyway. Maybe they already went to bed.”

They were still debating their options when a voice made them jump.

“I knew it!” Omar said. “I’d recognize the sound of that engine anywhere. Did I not tell you?"

Silvia spun around. Anthony and Omar were approaching from the street.

“You told me,” Anthony said in good humor before smiling at them. “Hey! What are you guys up to?”

“I’ve been sworn to secrecy,” Mindy replied while giving him a hug. “I can’t even tell my gay fiancé.”

Anthony laughed. “I love it! You have to call me that from now on.”

“I will,” she replied happily. “Where were you guys?”

“At the park,” Omar explained. “On the swings.”

“In the middle of the night?” Mindy challenged.

He shrugged. “What do you guys do on your sleepovers? Paint each other’s nails?”

“I’d let you paint my nails,” Anthony murmured.

“Really?” Omar whispered back. “That sounds kind of fun.”

“For your information,” Mindy said after shooting Silvia a look of exasperation, “we were out on a special mission.”

“Doing what?” Omar asked. “Whatever it is, we want in!”

“You don’t have security clearance,” Silvia replied.
