“Jesus, she’s a first-class bitch,” Kane growled.“Start from the beginning and tell me everything the shithead and the bitch said.”
Amelia shook her head.“No.Jaylen didn’t do anything wrong.I shouldn’t have stayed.”She tried to pull away.“I can’t say any more.”
Kane used his thumb to wipe the tears that continued to roll down her cheeks. He wanted to cry along with her at the sight of her pain. He’d never seen this extreme, desolate sorrow ever.
“What do you need me to do?”
“Would you go to the...”she choked out, “his cabin, get my things, and my car?I know it’s inconvenient, and a lot to ask, but I’ll pay you for your time.”
“You’ll do no such thing.I’ll do whatever you need.”
“It’s so much to ask.”
Kane hugged her to his chest again.“How about you go to my office and rest while I get it taken care of?”
Amelia took a step back and used both hands to run down her face as she nodded.
“Thank you so much.I’ll never be able to repay you.”
Kane squeezed her shoulders.Although he was still confused, he knew without a doubt Jaylen would never throw Amelia away for her sister. No matter how beautiful her sister was, he wasn’t going to argue with her. He’d talk to Jaylen himself and get it taken care of.
He turned her and pointed.“Go sit in the office. There’s a sofa if you’d like to lie down.”
Amelia nodded and made her way down the aisle and then closed the door behind her.
Chapter Twenty-Six
Ashiver raced downhis back when he caught sight of Wolf lying in the shade of the cabin when he stepped out the back.He was supposed to stay with Amelia. He whistled for Wolf and started walking toward the woods behind his house. His eyes scanned the area before cupping his hands around his mouth and yelling.
“Amelia!”
Half an hour later, he was very close to losing it.Where the hell was she?She wouldn’t have gone over to the main ranch without telling him.
Jaylen moved to check in the stables, wondering why she hadn’t come because she certainly had to have heard him yelling for her.
A horrible thought hit him.A sense of her being hurt raced through his mind and twisted his stomach.
