The light turns green. Rosemary takes down her hair and flicks the scrunchie at Logan. The windows are open. Her pale-gold hair whips around her face, but she doesn’t try to contain it again. Doesn’t try to control it. Rosemary laughs as her hair covers her eyes, and Melissa fucking Ethridge, Logan never thought a moment like this would be possible.

“I love you,” Logan says, simply because she was thinking it. And there is no point in pretending not to care anymore.

Rosemary pushes her hair back and smiles. “I love you, too.”

Logan pulls on to the 3 heading north and turns to Rosemary again. “Out of curiosity, what is in that jumbo binder of yours?”

Rosemary hoists the binder up into her lap. “I’m so glad you asked, Pear. You remembered to pack your passport, right?”

Logan nods slowly. Her brand-new passport is tucked safely in her fanny pack.

“Perfect. Because I already booked a room at Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City for the night. I thought we could stroll around the old city, and I can practice my French and you can eat patisserie, and then there’s a waterfall we can hike out to tomorrow, and—what?” Rosemary blinks at her from the passenger seat. “Sorry. Was that too much?”

Logan can’t help but smile. “Nope. That was just enough.”

She pulls her hair out of its bun and lets it get tangled in the wind, too, as they drive onward.
