June isn’t in trouble, she was called in as a witness for a behavioral hearing. If she needed an alibi, we would’ve heard about it earlier.

The hearing was held in an auditorium. I tried to convince the guys to stay home, but the team filled up the chairs, laughing and shoving each other. Two women in professional attire glanced our way, confused, while Nick shook Buttons, calling him a moron for bringing popcorn.

“Silent,” Denali warned them.

“Shut the fuck up,” I snapped. “Shut up, sit down, shut up!”

My teammates shot out of their chairs—goddammit, what now?—and I glanced up in surprise to see Coach Sémajuste carefully walking through the seats.

I jerked up out of my chair. “Coach.”

He nodded, taking the seat next to me.

“Uh…what are you doing here?”

He smiled, amused. “June might be leaving our team but she’s still part of the Gladiators, Bear.”

“Oh.”

Our team fell silent when the door opened. June came through in a pair of dark green pants cinched around her waist and a button-up shirt, her hair pulled into a ponytail, my sexy girlfriend. Her friends surrounded her, Willow, Tallulah, and the football girlfriends.

Sully started clapping wildly behind me.

“Would you shut the fuck up?” I hissed along with fifteen of my teammates before we realized Coach wasright there. I cleared my throat. “Sully, can you be quiet?”

June’s eyes flickered to our seats, and she stumbled in surprise, eyes wide.

I gave a little wave.

A blush spilled across her cheeks. She pulled out her phone and mine beeped.

I saw June stifle a giggle.

Xavier came in, dressed in the nicest suit out of everyone there, his hair slicked back. He looked so different and it wasn’t the clothes. Xavier easily threw his weight around campus, this was the first time I’d seen him actually nervous.
