“I already know.”
“I think these ready,” she said, referring to the mushrooms on the table.
“You already know what to do with ’em.”
“I’ll send ’em out with Creed tonight and see what they have to say ’bout ’em.”
“Bet. I’m finna go handle this fence.”
Chapter 5
Remedi
A couple days later
“I’m gon’ ask you one more fucking time!” Reese’s voice carried throughout the house and woke me from my sleep. Prada jumped and barked at my bedroom door. My eyes darted to the clock on the nightstand, and I saw it was two o’clock in the morning. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I hoped she handled it so that I could go back to sleep. I’d spent most of my day over there with Khalif at the farm about Beauty, and then made a stop by Magnolia Veterinary Clinic on my way home. I’m tired and I just want to catch up on some sleep.
Grabbing the pillow, I turned over and covered my head, but that didn’t help any. “Who the fuck is she, Carlos!” Reese screamed.
Carlos?
I frowned. She didn’t mention that she’d been seeing some guy named Carlos, let alone anyone for that matter, and now she’s up this time of morning going in on a nigga. Removing the pillow from my head, I tossed the covers back and sat up in bed.
“Prada… bed, now.” She looked back at me and ran full speed to her bed in the corner of the room. Spinning in a circle, she finally got comfortable and lay back down.
“Stop acting like I’m fucking stupid! I ain’t fucking stupid, bitch!” I hadn’t heard Reese curse this much since I’ve been here, so I know she’s mad as hell. Yeah, at this point, I needed to get up and see what’s going on. From the tone of her voice, things were about to escalate.
Slinging my legs over the bed, I slipped my feet into my furry pink slippers and got up from bed. My bedroom door is shut, and I can still hear Reese’s mouth through it. I opened the door and stepped out into the hallway, and her voice grew stronger.
“Do I have stupid written on my fucking forehead!” Glass shattered with a sharp, piercing crack that split the temporary silence like a whip, and my feet halted. “The next one coming for yo’ fucking head! I’on know why you think I’m playing with you! Who the fuck is she!”
I dawdled down the hallway to see what was really going on. From the sound of things, whoever Carlos was, he had to have been cheating on her or something. That’s exactly why I’m glad that I’ve been single. Men were nothing but a headache. Whitney’s boyfriend showed me that, and that’s exactly why I haven’t been taking any of them seriously.
Light illuminated from down the hallway. The closer I got down there, the brighter the light grew. Another burst of glass erupted in the air. Reese was standing in the kitchen with glass plates in her hand, and some guy, who must be Carlos, stood in the living room in front of the sectional ass naked. I shielded my eyes with my hand and turned away from him. Reese lunged another plate at him. My eyes followed it toward Carlos, who ducked before it could smack him in the face, and it crashed into the wall. The television behind him was filled with lines with a huge hole in the center of it.
“What is going on?” I questioned her. Obviously, I already knew the answer to my own question.
“She’s fucking crazy!” Carlos barked from behind the sectional. He hadn’t even lifted his head back up, probably terrified that she was going to take it off.
Reese’s eyes bucked as she grabbed another plate off the counter and lifted her hand in the air. “You damn right I’m crazy! Will you believe this nigga has been cheating on me and got the audacity to be laying up in my fucking bed?” Ever since I arrived, Reese hadn’t said a word about being in a relationship. This was news to me.
“I ain’t cheating,” Carlos made known.
“Lift your head up,” she told him.
“Carlos, if I were you, I wouldn’t even do that,” I intervened.
“Nah, let him lift his head up so I can take it clean off for that fucking lie he just told!” Saliva sprayed from her lips. I could understand her being angry right now. I’d be too if I was getting cheated on and he was lying up in here as if he hadn’t done shit. “Gone tell her how the bitch found me on Facebook and messaged me!” It killed me when women wanted to come to other women woman to woman, but sometimes, it be the only way the woman found out that her man had been cheating on her. Sometimes it ain’t even for the woman’s benefit. The mistress knew who she was and was only trying to make her leave the man so that she’d have him all to herself. They really be desperate as hell.
“I’m just gon’ leave ’til you calm down ’cause you’re tripping.”
“I’m tripping!” Reese’s eyes expanded even more as she poked herself in the chest. I didn’t even think that was possible. Reaching down, she grabbed something from the island. The sound came clean and precise—a single deliberate click that left no room for doubt.
“Run!” I yelled, and my head whipped in Carlos’s direction almost in slow motion. Jumping to his feet, he made a dash for the door closest to him. All I saw was his naked ass as he ran out the door, leaving the screen door wide open behind him.
Pow!
The first shot sounded behind him. Reese marched from around the island in his direction. I’m not sure how far he’s going to get, naked with none of his items, but his best bet was to be out of this house before it becomes a crime scene.
