“He’s going to see it, Soph. You said it yourself.”
“No he’s not.” A cab pulled to a stop in front of her and she opened the door. She gestured for me to get in.
“I really think we need to go back in.”
“Nope.” She shoved me into the cab, climbed in after me, and slammed the door closed.
“Where are we even going?” I asked.
She gave the driver my address and then turned to me. “You’re going home. And we better hope to God that Axel is already in your bed waiting for you.”
I slowly nodded. “That at least delays it. And even if he’s not there yet, I can make sure he comes straight to me instead of going home tonight.” I pulled out my phone and shot Axel a text saying that being out so late had freaked me out and that I was scared. I hit send.
“Brilliant,” Sophie said. “And everyone is going to the Stevens’ for the football game tomorrow afternoon.”
“Oh my God, I forgot about that!” My parents and all my aunts and uncles hosted the game on a rotating basis. And it was Uncle Tyler and Aunt Hailey’s turn. “What time is tomorrow’s game?”
“The Giants play at 1. Which means you just need to distract Axel tomorrow morning. Keep him at your place until kickoff.”
“I can do that.”I hope.
“I’ll try to get to their place super early with the guise of helping out. And then I’ll convince Parker to give me the key again, sneak into Axel’s room, and ex out of the security footage.”
I breathed a sigh of relief. “Good plan.”
“Easy peasy.”
My phone buzzed.
Axel had already texted me back. “Big brother mode activated,” I read out loud.God.Him showing up in my room every night hadn’t felt like big brother vibes to me. But apparently it had to him.
Sophie laughed. “He sounds very drunk. Probably because George ditched him for Luis the Cheater.”
I kept staring at my phone. Did that mean he was coming?Probably. He’d already told me he’d see me in bed later. After telling me to have a fun night babysitting. “So how should I distract Axel tomorrow morning?”
Sophie shrugged. “I don’t know. Tell him you’re only fake dating someone else because you’re actually madly in love with him? That’ll lead to a long conversation.”
“Soph.”
“Or you could give him head. You’ve had some practice now.”
“I’m not blowing Axel.”
“Oh.” She raised her eyebrows. “Because you’re only interested in blowing Jacob?”
“Stop it.”
“That wasn’t a no.” She stared at me.
I was pretty sure the cabbie was staring at me too, but it was better to pretend this wasn’t happening.
“Hey,” Sophie said. “If there was something actually progressing in this fake dating thing, you’d tell me right?”
“I...” I shook my head. “It doesn’t matter.”
“No, tell me.”
I sighed. “I think maybe I’m starting to have real feelings.”
