Jacob turned back to the fridge. “I don’t think we have any of that either. But if you’re in the mood for breakfast for dinner, I could make us some omelets or something.”

Okay, so sausage wasn’t the right code word either. But... “Actually, that sounds amazing.” I loved breakfast for dinner.

He pulled out some eggs. And then he found some spinach and cheese to put in them.

I watched him expertly whisk up some eggs and get the oil nice and hot in the pan. The eggs sizzled as soon as they hit it.

I would have asked him where he learned to cook. But I knew he spent tons of time in the kitchen with his mom.

He grabbed a remote off the counter and turned on the music. “May I have this dance?” he asked. But instead of putting out his hand, he pretended to reel me in like a fish.

I hopped toward him with a laugh.

I twirled around and he mimicked my move. I couldn’t help but laugh. We were so comfortable around each other. This didn’t have to be weird. I waited for him to pull me in close before I tried breaching the subject again.

I looped my arms behind his neck. “Look, I know we’re not here to just have dinner.”

He lowered his eyebrows as he stared down at me.

“We don’t have to do anything, though. I totally understand if you don’t want to.”

“Don’t want to what?” he asked.

God, was he really going to make me say it out loud? “Bananas,” I said slowly. “Sausages,” I added when he didn’t respond.

He just looked confused.

“I know that Sophie told you all about my...problem.”

He lowered his eyebrows even more. “What problem?”

Why was he torturing me? “Thethingyou talked to Sophie about earlier today.”

Jacob didn’t respond.

Gah!He clearly just wanted me to say it out loud. I took a deep breath. “I know Sophie caught you all up on the kiss thief. And how he wants to steal third base next. And that I’m nervous about it because I’ve never done it before. And obviously you’re the only person that I can practice with. But if you don’t want me to give you a practice blowjob, I totally understand.”

“What the hell are you talking about? The kiss thief wants to steal third base?”

I just stared at him in horror. Why was he acting like he didn’t know about this? “Didn’t Sophie tell you all this already?”

“I haven’t spoken to Sophie since lunch.”

That...traitor!She’d set me up to ask all on my own!Screw me.I needed to get out of here right this second. I took a step back but Jacob grabbed my wrist.

“Can you maybe say all that again now that you know Sophie and I didn’t talk about this?” he asked.

“I’d rather not.”

“Scarlett. Just tell me.”

I sighed. “The kiss thief said he was going to steal third base next. And I know nothing about third base stuff. I can barely even kiss right.” I groaned and looked up at the ceiling. “So Sophie came up with the idea that maybe you could give me a few pointers. And she told me she already told you about it. And I...I am so embarrassed. So can I please just excuse myself and see you at school on Monday? And we can never talk about this again?”

Jacob laughed.

I slowly lowered my gaze from the ceiling. “Jacob Miller, don’t laugh at me.”

He kept laughing. “Is that why you just asked for bananas and sausage for dinner?”
