Two weeks

My head shakes and Cort notices. The Brother sees everything. Bidding wars aren’t all that’s going on here. Sending a Brother for Security isn’t going to stop what’s happening.

“You don’t agree?”

“No, Boss. This is military planning right out of the book. Recon and testing for reaction is how we learn to move in enemy territory. Studying the enemy teaches us how they fight, what they fight for and how to use their reactions to stop them. Whoever is training that new club is military elite. The dipshits that cut a hole in the fence and rode into my kill zone were never military. There is no way this club is the same but they have the same name and logo.” It was Aryan half-baked wannabes, I think and ask my partners. They send confirmation back.

Harky, Keylan and Colonel Graywolf agree with what I vocalized.

Cort turns toward Falcon. “We didn’t test or give a shit what the enemy was doing. In and out without a trace.” Falcon shrugs. His assassin team was stop and drop.

Cort scans his other boards. “Anyone disagree with the testing.”

Luke Rayne stands. “He’s right. Zeus, Perses, Light and Ajax all agree. It’s how I’d plan an Op in other countries, Boss. I worked alone so I needed everything planned in order to make it out with whoever or whatever I was meant to.”

I nod. “The partners can get surveillance and recon intel. They're all trained for stealth. This isn’t about freight wars; they’re moving something and want reaction so they can easily counter it.”

He looks surprised. The Solaita twin nods. “It’s what I thought, Boss. We can wait for freaky to hand it to us but Seamus is right. This is the third truck and your food supplier’s truck here was stopped and threatened on the way to us. No one is fuckin’ with Alpha trucks but we contract independents to move our shit regularly.”

Cort isn’t pissed like he was when he opened the meet. “Who can run point to plan this out. Protectors are back next week. I’m not pulling them back early for this.”

“I’ll work with Seamus and the K-9s unless Harky wants it.”

My eyes bounce to Harky and his shaking head. “I need Zeus and a team for Ops. We have another rescue planned with Bastille in three days.”

He told me they may have more chipped K-9 but I’m hoping for Service K-9s for the elders. Sarge is better and working with Katie on a new program. I turn back to Solaita but he’s watching Cort.

“He can’t go on Ops, Brinks.”

Solaita rolls his eyes. “The K-9s are teams that run without a human Brother. You want me to assign handlers for surveillance?” The attitude that rolls off those words have me looking at Cort. My planning may be done alone after all.

Kristos laughs butI hold my breath. The Brother is fuckin’ crazy.

Cort smiles and I breathe. Christ, Solaita is almost as big as Cort but I swear Cort’s eyes could slice someone up. Kristos laughs again. I give him a look; the seer shit can be annoying.

The giant isn’t slicing and dicing anyone today. “Let me know what you need. I’m on Ops and don’t know how military plan when they’re just delaying drivers. My first thought was they’re trying to get the contracts by making the drivers miss delivery times. I don’t have time to read this type of planning with the top Protectors off. Luke Rayne is on Teller’s fire extinguisher job with Asa, Citiali and Bishop. Zeke is our healer. Anton is chained to Delta with Maverick, Alder is everywhere covering Justice’s non-Ops work, every President picked from the Protector lists, if you’ve got the time, pick something not crossed off yet. Alder put them all on one board to make it easy but the list goes on for fuckin’ ever. Brinks, Seamus get me the plans on a board and make sure they all make it home. I’m out.”

I roger with everyone else and watch his board go black. Harky laughs while asking, “He’s on Ops?”

Falcon answers. “Yeah, I took classes and he took Teller’s Op shifts. The only one we’re not covering is Aylen. She’s never in Ops, she’s on them. She covered classes with virtual and meets with Officers. I got Alta on my classes so I can take off at the end of the month. I wouldn’t do all virtual classes but see now that for emergencies, or time off, it matters. It’s taken every President and more to cover two Brothers for a week and we still have a quarter of their list not covered.”

“Alpha-Bits are covering Blackhawks. Aylen and Walker didn’t need coverage but Mucimi and Hannah did for IT,” Luke Rayne says, walking toward the door. He must be covering someone for something. He smiles looking over his shoulder. “I’m on FBI Ops. Marks is off in twenty.” He’s in a bubble house office or a Club I haven’t seen but it’s not a Club close because I’ve seen all in a couple of hundred-mile radius of all Rising Clubs. No Clubs are bubble shaped and the Clubs’s Colonel Graywolf toured with me weren’t bubbles. I just make it to the keyboard with the weird thoughts about bubble buildings when I realize I’m getting as crazy as the rest of them.

Falcon stops us before I shut them down. “Let me know if I can help. Brinks, Seamus, I’m on BSC Control if I’m needed and Cooper offered help.”

I nod. We’ll need that. Brinks sits on the table. “We can plan this now. I’m not due in Ops for almost an hour.”

I relax back in the closest chair. “I see where virtual comes in handy. I took some Mase control time and was trying to work out a time to meet up with you.”

“Come to dinner or Brother time but we need intel right away and I need what protocols you’re using. You plan full black ops, right?”

I nod and pull my phone at the same time he pulls his. It says Phoenix.

“Fuck. I’m at Phoenix for dinner.” He looks up. “You too?”

I nod. “Yeah. I’ll bring the boys so we can talk while they swim. They’ve been doing that after dinner so I have time to meet with the trainers and handlers. Mase takes overnight on-call control for BSC and early Ops. Our missions were always alone. We didn’t have multi agency support.” I smile. “We were a full-service team.”

He smiles with a nod but looks distracted. “I’ll see you there. IT will have more by then. I’ll ask Akai or Asa to update what they have before we meet. I need to clear some shit to make a dinner meet.”
