I lean back, lifting the front wheels and roll down one bounce at a time. “Hit the plate on the end of the banister.”
He turns and stops with a big smile. “You don’t actually roll down those steps.”
I don’t answer until I’m on the ground. “No. The footrest on my old chair had a lip I made out of angle iron and always held my feet in place. Asa didn’t like that idea. He’s only seen the old chairs or electric, so explaining mine wasn’t easy. Shadow showed him pictures and Light sent him schematics from a medical supply company. We gave him the adjustments we made but didn’t add the extras. It’s easier here. Everything is new and open. The farm was easier than Scotland but it wasn’t open like here.”
He smiles. “I bet. Old, to me, means narrow, add-ons where needed without basic amenities.”
I laugh. “Yeah, heat in back rooms wasn’t a necessity and all plumbing was additions along thick outer walls.”
“Fireplaces in additions?”
He’s a thinker if not a knower. “Yeah. Kitchen was obvious but bathroom was between kitchen and living room fireplace.”
“I’ve never been to Scotland, but England was like that. I didn’t ask building questions because we were off work, the guys laughed or gave me shit about always working.”
I can see that. Anchor is young and Keylan told me the team were all recruited for him.
We get to a button I can thumb switch as I push the right wheel. Light sends code and Shadow shows with Judge and Izzy.
“How is Sarge?” I ask the partners.
Shadow sends good and his stats but his eyes are on Izzy. Her hologram board has a question mark and lunch.
“Yeah, I’m going over to have lunch with him. He wants Light’s favorite chicken sandwich and salad plate.”
She chuffs. My goof of a partner smiles like a jowly clown. I really should have gotten the rottie bobble head. I send it to Light to find one for the bloody eejit.
He makes me scrunch my eyes shut and clamp my jaw tight so I don’t laugh at his ‘shipped’ reply. He already ordered it.
Anchor doesn’t stop soldering but Judge watches me. I shrug and move on.

Maestro Club Medic Room
Sarge is happy to have company. Anchor, Nike, Judge and Duke follow me in. Light is in Ops and Shadow is on kid watch according to the schedule. I don’t know where they got the ‘kid watch’ words but it works.
“This is Anchor, Sarge. He’s from the Rescue Club.”
Sarge sends me an ‘elder’ sign.
I have no clue so I ask, “You have elders?”
He’s surprised. “Yeah, my girl Drew brought a bunch of them. They started programs for more elder compounds in the other Clubs.”
I point to Sarge. “He asked. You wanted to work with kids or elders?” I ask Sarge.
‘Visit, Rescue, ? He asks in the chip.’
I nod. “When you’re ready we can visit Rescue.”
Anchor gets it. “They’d love it. There are two companion dogs there but… are you elite like Nike or chipped like Light?”
I smile at his question. “He’s chipped but has a watch like the elite, it’s just not on him in here.”
“They could use a service dog that can call for help. Drew mentioned it for Ma Gregory but she doesn’t want a dog. Zeus didn’t have an Ops dog for the elders yet but said they’ll get more.” Anchor is excited about his elders getting help.
I nod. “Harky said there are more. I don’t know where they get them from but the last ones were chipped.”
