“Um. It was by the music.”

“It’s the chicken tender po’boy from Fire Peaux Boyz; I’m sure. They were selling a lot of those earlier,” I say.

“That’s what you want too?” Kassir asks.

“No. I had that earlier. Did y’all get Miss Delanie to cook?” I ask, referring to one of D-Ville’s best cooks. Nobody beats her smothered chicken.

“Yeah. What sides you want?”

“Mashed potatoes with brown gravy and green beans, please. You’re getting something too, right?”

“Probably fried red snapper,” he says, then leans forward. “Put your shoes on, man, so we can go get the food.”

The slight pout on Kassan’s face is evident. He doesn’t want to go, so I step in. “He can stay,” I say quickly. “I might need help. You look strong,” I tell Kassan. “Are you?”

“I’m real strong,” he assures me while nodding.

“Good. Then, stay with me, please,” I say and Kassir squints.

“I’ll stay,” Kassan declares.

Kassie mouths, “Are you sure?” and I nod. His smile spreads across his handsome face, flashing his bottom grill. His arm slips around my waist then he pulls me back on the sofa with him. Whispering in my ear, he says, “I can just order something for delivery.”

“Not what we want. Both spots are downstairs at the block party. It’s not going to take you long to go get it. We will be fine,” I assure him.

After staring lovingly at me for a moment, he slowly kisses me again. “Bet. I’ll be right back. Don’t try to get up until I get back.” When he raises off the sectional, he places his hand on Kassan’s shoulder. “Take care of her,” he tells him.

“I got her, Daddy, and don’t forget the ranch.”

Kassir lingers for a minute before leaving us. The moment he does though, I hear my phone ringing. It’s Teaira’s tone.

“Can you please get my phone from your dad’s room? I think it’s on the bed.”

“Okay,” he says before pausing his game. He rushes up and practically runs to get my phone. The ringing has ceased by the time he returns. “It stopped though,” he says as he passes it to me.

“It’s fine. I’ll just call her back. Thank you.”

Because I want to ask her hot ass who she left the block party with and I can’t just walk my ass out of this living room away from his ears, I text her instead.

Me: Missed your call. With Kassan.

Bestie: That’s right. You good?

Me: Yes. He’s sweet. Kassir’s twin.

Bestie: I saw. Today was my first time seeing him in person and damn! His mini-me frfr. How’s the ankle? You icing it and keeping it elevated?

Me: Yes, I lie. The ice pack is no longer cold and I need another one or some actual ice. However, because she knows me so damn well, her response is spot on.

Bestie: Lying ass. Ice it!

Me: I am! Now, who the hell did you leave the block party with???

Bestie: **GIF of bulging eyes**

Me: Spill it, bitch!

Bestie: Tyriq…
