Why was it that even when you went grocery shopping there was still nothing to eat? It was some sort of cosmic mystery that defied all logic.
I took a few more bites, put the lid on, and headed upstairs, grabbing my laptop. Unfortunately, books didn’t write themselves, and I had work to do. If I was going to channel my kisses with Dex for my next few chapters, well, he’d never know. And at least in my fantasy world, I could give everyone the orgasm they deserved.
That was the great thing about books—there was never bad sex, everyone got a happily ever after, and the bad guys alwaysgot what they deserved. Was it any wonder I preferred fantasy to real life? With that, I settled in to get lost in a world where I didn’t have a stalker. Ok, my main character did have a psychotic vampire after him, but I knew exactly how that would turn out.
Well, mostly, anyway. Sometimes characters had minds of their own. With that amusing thought, I settled into bed with my computer on my lap and got lost in my own world.
I woke up to banging.
I had a weird moment of total disorientation where I thought my hot vampire MC (who just so happened to lookjustlike Dex) was pounding on the door to come in so we could have wild and crazy wall sex, but after blinking a few times I realized I was laying in bed and that had just been a dream.
That’s what I got for writing into the late hours of the night and falling asleep mid-chapter. I was still just boring old me, and the banging was coming from outside, not my front door. (And there would be no crazy wall sex, which was actually way hotter in novels than in real life. At least in my experience.)
I should probably have been freaking out, but if I heard banging, I knew Dex heard it too, and I thought it had been going on for some time based on its appearance in my dream. Maybe it was stupid to have such total faith in Dex, but he said he’d protect me, and I believed him.
I grabbed my phone from my nightstand to check the time, and I realized it was after ten in the morning. So totally not too early for… whatever the hell that was.
Eventually I crawled out of bed and looked out the window.
Sexy Neighbor was on a ladder next to the giant tree in the front yard. The banging had stopped, and it looked like he was adjusting something on the tree.
I had no fucking clue what he was doing, but it was the perfect excuse to go out and chat with him. I ran into the bathroom to get myself semi-presentable. I peed, brushed my teeth (because eww, morning breath), tackled my hair into some form of submission, and ran back into the bedroom to throw on some jeans and a t-shirt.
I had a moment to ponder if I should wear something sexier, but I didn’t hear banging, and I wanted to get out before Dex went back inside. Plus, it would take way too much time and brainpower to sex myself up at ten in the morning.
By the time I got outside, Dex was off the ladder, and he looked over when my front door banged open. (Maybe I was a little too enthusiastic in my exit.)
I gave an awkward wave, and Dex sauntered over, all hot muscle and sexiness. He had on a pair of black jeans and a black hoodie, but I could tell that he didn’t have a shirt on underneath since it was halfway unzipped.
Holy hotness, Batman. Was I drooling? Maybe a little. Was climbing him like a tree still an option?
“Morning,” he rumbled.
“Hey!” I said, giving my little wave again. I stuck my hands in my pockets before I could do something else stupid with them, like grab onto him and pull him in for a kiss. Because we weren’t at that point yet. Right?
He leaned against the bottom rail on my steps while I looked down on him from my porch, and ohmygod if that didn’t put dirty thoughts into my head.
Then again, with Dex, it didn’t take much. Plus, apparently waking up from a sexy dream about a take charge vampire had made me more than my usual level of horny.
Dex took a deep breath in and grinned at me.
“So, uh, what are you up to?” I asked.
Because, yeah, I sucked with people. I was a very good stalker, but not so good with the actual interactions. Luckily Dex didn’t seem to mind too much.
“I thought maybe some extra motion sensor lights might be helpful,” he said, motioning toward the tree. “And I fixed your door frame—sorry about that—and then I did your house numbers, which I think you were working on the other day,” he added, gesturing up to my front door.
I looked over, and yup, my door looked all fixed, and not only were my house numbers on securely, but they were nice large new ones. They were the same color as my old ones and looked fancy. It was so sweet that Dex had done that for me.
“I put a motion sensor light up on your porch too. I hope that’s ok. I added some to my house as well. I figured a little extra security never hurts,” he added, pointing to something above my head, where presumably another light was now set up.
“Wow. Thank you so much, Dex. I really, really appreciate it,” I said, stepping down to look up at the light. It was affixed to my porch overhang and had two lights pointing out and a box in the center. It wasn’t that big, but I thought it would be noticeable to anyone trying to sneak in. “I should probably get, like, a doorbell camera or something, I guess,” I mumbled, thinking about security. It had always seemed like a waste to me, since we really didn’t have any neighbors and no one was coming out this way to steal packages or anything. But it was probably a good idea.
Dex gave me a funny look, but then he nodded and said, “Yeah, I can set that up if you want.”
“Yes, that would be great. I’m not the best with installing stuff,” I laughed.
Dex smiled at me. God, he was sexy.
