Paz?he asked cautiously.

“There you are, beautiful. Good morning! Don’t you worry—I have it all figured out. Are you ready for the best Valentine’s Day ever?” Paz asked, hopping out of bed.

Trent groaned.Ah, I should have known that your cheeriness would assert itself.

“Yes, Eeyore, it’s a new day, and no obstacle is too large to overcome. Even Valentine’s Day,” Paz chirped.

Damn, how could anyone be so fucking positive without even an ounce of caffeine in their body?

It boggled Trent’s mind.

Luckily Paz got ready in blessed silence, and Trent mostly zoned out. Until Paz dressed him, that is.

Ok, you picked out some awesome clothes. But this isn’t a little…Trent trailed off. He was wearing skinny jeans, newsneakers, and a tight, faded, Henley with buttons going partway down the chest.

“Sexy? Hot? Stylish?” Paz filled in.

Slutty? Tight?Trent dryly answered.

Paz just laughed. “You look fantastic, beautiful. Totally dateworthy.”

Trent pondered over that while Paz finished getting ready and grabbed his keys and wallet from the table by the door. Did Paz meanthiswas a date? Or someone else would date him? Trent hoped it was the first.

Rather than heading for the car, though, Paz started walking.

Little chilly for no jacket, isn’t it? You better not give my body frostbite,Trent groused.

“Beautiful, I would never harm this body. And it’s a mild day for February. It needs to be below freezing for frostbite,” Paz assured him.

They ended up at the coffee shop they had ventured to yesterday, and Paz made his way in, whistling a little under his breath. They had slept in a bit—Trent guessed they had both exhausted each other last night, and if he had a body he would have blushed just thinking about it again. Their timing must have been after the morning rush and before the lunch rush, because there was a slow trickle but not a crowd in the shop.

Are you sure this place is a good idea?Trent asked. That guy Cassius did do some freaky shit last time.

Paz pulled out his phone, holding it up to his ear before saying, “Yes, I’m sure.”

Trent could see Cassius filling orders behind the counter, and the guy actually rolled his eyes at them. Trent huffed in annoyance, but Paz told him, “Don’t worry, beautiful. I’ll even get you something sweet and high in sugar to start your day. Chocolate croissant?”

Trent might possibly have moaned a bit, and Paz chuckled at the sound.

When their turn came at the counter, Paz did order his peppermint mocha drink and a chocolate croissant, and Cassius plated it like they were sitting and staying in the restaurant, giving Paz a meaningful look. Trent wasn’t sure what the guy was up to, but he didn’t trust him.

Trent started to tell Paz that after they sat, but then his mouth was filled with warm, chocolatey, flaky pastry, and he was moaning as the dough from the croissant literally melted on his tongue to blend with the sweetness of the chocolate.

Holy shit, that’s amazing. You gotta try a bite, Paz, Trent insisted.

Paz had the next bite, and then he raised the cup to take a sip, and the chocolate, peppermint sweetness filled his mouth. Trent could only moan in appreciation again.

Paz had the next sip. “How can you even qualify that as coffee? You can’t even taste it between the chocolate and the peppermint in there,” Paz said, giving another sip to Trent.

“I think that’s the point,” Cassius said, coming up behind them and then sliding into the chair on the other side of the table.

They were off in the corner of the coffee shop in a relatively private area. Paz looked over at the counter to see a girl with purple hair taking orders.

“Yes, it probably is. Trent definitely has a sweet tooth,” Paz said, looking at Cassius.

“Hmmm. Are you just back for the pastries and drinks, or did you want to consult with me about something?” Cassius asked.

Tell him he better not try to separate us again,Trent muttered. The guy seemed nice enough, but Trent was still a little traumatized after the last time.
