Well, they said you should always love yourself. Trent wondered if loving the demon who was pretending to be you counted.

Not that he loved Paz. Because that was just crazy, right? Yeah. Totally crazy.

“Yes, you can assure your host I will not be hooking up with you. Or him after you’re gone,” Samael said, interrupting Trent’s thoughts.

Paz seemed a little affronted at that. “He’s a very sexy host and a great guy. Who wouldn’t want to hook up with him? Not that he’s in the market. Because he’s not. But you hook up with everyone,” Paz stated.

Samael looked a little awkward. “Yes, well, we’ve recently acquired our own human, and, well… it just wouldn’t feel right, you know?”

“Ah. Yes, Idoknow,” Paz replied.

“Acquired”their own human? Why does that word choice sound super creepy?Trent muttered.

Samael continued, “It’s odd how… attached to them you can become, isn’t it? They’re so wonderfully quirky.”

The two shared some kind of look that Trent couldn’t quite interpret, then Paz’s head nodded, then Samael’s head nodded back, and then Samael clapped his hands together, as if signaling the end of that non-verbal conversation.

“Well then, on to the fun stuff. What were you interested in for your host? Anything I can help with?” the demon asked.

Ohmygod no, he is not helping us pick out sex toys,Trent whined.

Paz laughed. “No, I think Trent and I can handle this. We’ll just browse around until we find things that strike his fancy.”

“Good luck then, Paz. In all things,” Samael said, and it sounded a little mysterious to Trent.

“Yes, you too, Samael. In all things. Although we are who we are, even as we wish we weren’t,” Paz replied. Then he walked off towards the aisles.

It was all a bit odd and secretive, and Trent almost asked Paz about it, but his demon distracted him as soon as they reached the first aisle. Paz holding up sex toys and asking him what he thought of them was totally embarrassing.

Ok, it was also rather hot and sexy, and obviously arousal was very brain-based, because even without a body, Trent was horny as hell by the time they’d perused the first few shelves.

Tonight was going to be a very interesting evening.

COULD DINNER GO ANY SLOWER?

Trent tried not to think too hard about what was in the nondescript brown paper bag sitting on the table. He’d been trying, quite unsuccessfully, to not think about it since they’d gotten home and Paz had placed it there.

“...Right?” Paz asked.

Only Trent had no idea what he’d just asked.

Um, yeah, right,he agreed.

“I just asked if it would be a good idea to chop off a few fingers while cutting the veggies, Trent,” Paz responded drily. “Are we a bit distracted?” he joked.

Trent sighed, and Paz just laughed, going back to cutting veggies. They were having a pasta and veggie dish with sauce, which they had picked up the ingredients for on the way home. Luckily Paz could cook, because Trent had no idea what was going on, and that wasn’t only because he was distracted. He was, after all, the guy who used to only have one pot and pan.

Only now he had a whole kitchen set, and Paz was putting it to good use. Trent supposed the dishes would just sit there unused once Paz left, because he couldn't cook. That was a really depressing thought.

So what’s it like down there in hell?Trent asked, trying to distract himself.

“Hot,” Paz joked. Trent chuckled, and Paz continued. “No really, though, it is hot, but I don’t mind it. We have lava falls and the ash looks kind of like snow looks up here—it’s actually really pretty. There are, of course, more unsavory parts of hell, but I don’t venture there too much. I’m a possession demon, so mostly I’m in Sheol—that’s the demon living space—or else I’m possessing mortals topside or socializing in Limbo. Limbo is a great hang out place, and plenty of mortal souls and demons spend time there.”

Do you like it? Possessing people, I mean,Trent clarified.
