Yaya walked up on her out of nowhere. “Let me get in this picture…” She squeezed next to her. Brook’Lynn scooted over, but she almost didn’t even recognize Marley when she sat on the other side of her. Gone were those big ass glasses and, instead, she wore grey contacts. Gone was every bit of clothing that covered her body. Instead, she wore a red freak’em dress and showed all the curves on her tiny frame.
“I almost didn’t recognize you,” Brook’Lynn told her. She hit Yaya on the arm. “What the fuck did you do to her?”
Yaya took the bottle to her head. “Got that ass in formation, won’t be following me around looking like a bird.”
In no time, more niggas were flocking over, but when a nigga named Wise walked over, Brook’Lynn didn’t make him scat… she actually liked Wise. They had a couple of years under theirbelt. “What’s up Wise?” she greeted him with a hug and frowned. “Look at yo hair, why the fuck is it so unruly?” she asked. He normally wore his thick hair in neat cornrows, but instead, that shit was all over the place. His skin was the same complexion of hers with the same long lashes. Wise had plenty bitches under his belt cause he was definitelythat nigga.
“Mannnn, the bitch who normally get me right done fucked around and stood me up.”
Brook’Lynn laughed, “You fucked her, didn’t you?”
“Real niggas don’t lie on they dick, but they don’t expose a bitch either, if you know what I mean,” he said. “Anyway, you gon’ hook a nigga up?”
“When?” she asked.
“Shit, like yesterday.”
“Come see me in the morning, I got you. As long as you bring me-”
He cut her off. “I already know, egg white delight without the ham and a caramel frappé.”
“Aiight,” she cheesed.
“Tell my nigga, Perfect, I said what’s good when you holla at him,” he told her before walking off.
“Oh, my God! Who was that?” Marley’s green ass asked. “He was the man of life!” she said in a daze.
“Too much man for you,” Brook’Lynn told her. She didn’t know how to deal with this new Marley. She liked her old friend better, who was always herself and not trying to be like anybody else.
They left the club that night then went their separate ways. Kema left with some nigga and Brook’Lynn acted like she didn’t even see it. Yaya was headed to do her own thing, and Brook’Lynn didn’t even want to know. Marley’s drunken ass was left to roll with her and stayed at her house.
It took all Brook’Lynn’s energy to try and help Marley inside. “Thank you soooo muchhh, my boo boo,” Marley slurred, as Brook’Lynn laid her on the bed in the guest room.
Brook’Lynn giggled before turning the lights out, walking out. After she showered, she went to get in her own bed, just to see that Marley had made her way in there and was balled up under her covers. “Awe hell.” She threw her arms up. She had every intention on waking her up and sending her right back, but since she looked so peaceful, she left her alone.
The morning came quickly and Brook’Lynn was pissed when Wise called waking her from her sleep. “Open the door Kidd.”
“It’s too early,” she mumbled.
“What? It’s 10 o’clock… come on.”
She hopped up and threw the covers off as her stomach became uneasy. “Marley! Go open the door!” She shook her up before hauling ass to her bathroom toilet, making it just in time as the vomit came from the pit of her stomach.
Argggghhh!
She remained there for the next five minutes, trying to regroup before finally looking up into Marley’s face; she was standing in the doorway with a sheet wrapped around her body. “What’s wrong with you?” She frowned.
Brook’Lynn slowly stood up and made her way to the sink, filling both her hands with water, swishing it around in her mouth and spitting it out. “I don’t know, probably drank too much.” She shrugged. “Don’t you have to work today?”
“No,” Marley told her. “We have the same schedule for now, remember? And why did you have me to go out there and open the door for that guy? How embarrassing, I look a mess,” she squealed in her squeaky voice.
“My bad,” Brook’Lynn whispered. “That was kind of fucked up, but I wasn’t thinking about it.”
“My gosh Brook’Lynn,” Marley said, sounding like her old self again. “Well, let me get myself together and I’ll go and make you some tea before I leave. We have work to do tonight. I’m desperate; I have to finally get out of my mother’s house and the nursing checks aren’t going to come quick enough. I have so many student loans to pay back, it’s ridiculous. Not only that, my car is giving out on me.”
“I hear you,” Brook’Lynn said, squeezing the toothpaste on the toothbrush.
Later that night, Brook’Lynn decided she was going to accompany Marley, Yaya, and Kema to pull up on Love, since Bugg was gone out of town and they fucked shit up with Shaw. She was going to make sure didn’t nobody else ended up in the fucking hospital, not on her watch, since those bitches had clearly lost their damn minds. Perfect better be lucky she loved his ass. She was willing to risk everything to make sure that he didn’t have to come back home and hustle, whenever the hell that was.
