“Warrant!”
I didn’t stop to listen to Cypher. There wasn’t time for a plan. Run, kill. That was the plan. Owen’s phone had been vibrating nonstop on the drive over and my anxiety was at an all-time high. I had no idea what was happening, but considering it was still going I figured Ainsley was fighting back. Otherwise they’d have taken all of them and left. The phone would have gone silent. Which would have scared the fuck out of me. For the kids. For my woman. Hell even for the dogs. We had a lot to protect inside that house.
Where the fuck were the deputies Owen had posted? I’d checked the tracker earlier and my phone was parked at Owen’s place all night, so I knew he was at home, but he would have left someone else with Ains.
There was a squad car in front of the house. I sure as shit hoped whoever was in it wasn’t dead. “Check on them!” I snapped at Toxic and pointed at the car.
He hesitated, then nodded and ran for the car.
I knew my brothers were on my heels as I took the porch steps in one bound, lowered my shoulder and splintered the door as I rammed my way inside. The place was mostly dark, lit up only by the gunfire I’d run directly in the middle of. Didn’t fucking matter.
Movement from the kitchen caught my attention and I flung myself in that direction. The men crouched behind the wall went flying like bowling pins. I didn’t need the light to know these were the shit heads that needed to die. That they’d come after my family, again.
I took a hit to the jaw and my head jerked to the side, but that didn’t stop me. I wrapped a hand around the throat of the poor bastard I’d landed on and pointed my Glock at another shadow. My gun joined the sound of the others inside the small house as I shot the guy coming toward me.
Looking down, I grinned at the man shaking his head at me. Begging silently to spare his life. They wouldn’t have spared my woman’s. I put the barrel to his forehead and pulled the trigger. His frantic scrambling ceased.
The others had run out the other side of the kitchen. Now I had to be careful because my brothers would be mixed in with these guys. Not to mention Ainsley and the kids.
We needed light so we could identify friend and foe. Getting to my feet, but crouching, I slapped my hand on the wall where the light switch was. There was swearing from all over the house as the kitchen lit up like the fourth of July. I squinted, trying to see. After being in the dark for so long my retinas were fucking burning just like everyone else’s.
A body moved near me and I swung my pistol in that direction. All the rifles had been tossed quickly into the SUV. Driving down the road with those strapped to our backs would’ve got us too much attention. The kind we didn’t need.
I took my finger off the trigger when Rotor crouched next to me. He raked a hand through his reverse Mohawk and scowled at me. “You coulda left the damn lights off.”
“Need to see who I’m shooting,” I said with a shrug. “Besides how can you see anything through that fucking hair? You look like a sheep dog.”
“Fuck off, I-”
Pyre hit the wall next to us, his back to it. “You going to sit there and bitch at each other all day?” He glared at us, then his eyes landed on me. “Your girl is behind the couch. These fuckers are spread all over the front half of the house.”
“Two down,” I replied motioning to the guys on the ground.
“Few more to go,” Rotor said with a grin. “I call dibs on the next one,” he said as he followed Pyre to the other end of the kitchen.
“You can’t fucking call dibs, asshole.”
“Sure can. Just did. No!” He elbowed Pyre out of the way and planted himself in the back doorway of the kitchen, where it led into the dining room. His gun kicked in his hand as he shot at whoever was hiding in there.
Eyeing the couch, I looked around, looking for anyone. For a smaller home there were enough spots for all the rats to hide. But I wasn’t leaving my girl there alone. Bullets sprayed aroundme as I sprinted across the room and slid behind the couch on one knee.
The barrel of a gun hit my nose and my eyes widened. “Hey there, Baby Girl. Happy to see me?”
“Warrant!” Ainsley gasped, pointing her gun downward.
I grabbed the top of the barrel and gently shoved it to the side. I’d rather have her pointing it at my head than accidentally risk having it hit anything below the belt. I had a nice dick. I wanted to keep it.
She wrapped one arm around me. “The kids are back in the spare bedroom.”
Squeezing her close, I saw that Torque was behind the couch too. “Go in through the first door on the right,” I told him. “Watch over the kids. Be careful, Beau’s in there with them.”
“Shit. He’s going to be all riled up,” Torque muttered. “If your mutt bites me again I’m going to hold you responsible.”
“Just go,” I snapped. Facing the back of the couch, I waited until he moved behind me and headed for the hallway before I peeked up over the couch and started shooting at anyone who tried to go after Torque.
As soon as he was safe down the hallway the shooting died down again. “I’m out,” Ainsley whispered. “You have any more mags?”
Pulling one out from the inside pocket of my cut, I handed it over to her. I had made it a point to carry the same weapon as Owen and the Sheriffs years ago. Good thing. She reloaded quickly and confidently. God that was fucking sexy. I needed to take her to the range at some point. I liked watching my woman handle deadly weapons.
