Cypher shook his head, but he wouldn’t dissuade us from carving the men up like Thanksgiving turkeys. It was our reward for chasing these assholes all over Sentinel.
“You’re actually going to-” He paused as I moved forward.
I took my knife out of its sheath on my belt, grabbed the closest guy’s ear, and sawed through the cartilage and bone while he howled in pain and protest. Once my blade made it all the way through, I eyed the ear, then tossed it to Demo. “You can have the rest. We need to go drop Jared off with Ainsley.”
“Aren’t you going to bring that to Ainsley?” Pyre asked.
“Hmm…” I thought about it for a second, then shook my head. “I think I’ve brought her enough surprises this week.” Besides, I wasn’t fully sure how my woman would react to receiving an ear as a present. Something told me it wouldn’t be a positive reaction.
“Jesus fucking Christ,” Steel muttered as he and Axel watched my brothers descend on the men tied up, like a pack of feral animals. We sort of were. But only to those who were enemies of our club. Everyone else was safe from our darker urges.
“Let’s go,” Riggs said, turning Jared around and walking him toward the door of the barn.
“Kid’s going to have nightmares for a month,” Steel muttered.
“I’mgoing to have fucking nightmares,” Riggs countered.
They both looked at Axel. He just shrugged. “Grew up in a cartel family, remember? I’ve seen a lot worse than an ear being cut off.”
Screams followed us out of the barn.
“Yeah, that’s closer to what I remember,” Axel said with a nod.
“Fucking crazy motherfuckers,” Steel said with a laugh. “Glad you’re on our side.”
“Always,” I said with a grin. “You need anything in the future, you only need to ask.”
We got on our bikes and I led the way, knowing I was about to inconvenience my woman once again. But I was looking forward to seeing her. It’d been too many fucking days since I’d seen her scowl in my direction. I missed it. Missed her. This was seriously cutting into my seduction time. How was I supposed to make her fall in love with me when these kidnapping assholeswouldn’t hold still so we could exterminate them? Bullshit. That was what it was.
CHAPTER 27
Warrant
“You havesomuch explaining to do-” Ainsley broke off when she saw Jared standing there. Her eyes widened as she took in all the bruises and the way the boy was holding his ribs. “And now you have even more explaining to do.”
Riding on the motorcycle behind Riggs had been torture for him since he likely had a broken rib or two, but he hadn’t said a word. He’d just gritted his teeth and held on. The kid was going to make one hell of a biker someday.
“Ohno,” Ainsley said, her gray eyes shooting to mine. “Warrant,” her tone was warning.
“It’s just for a bit,” I said, giving her a charming smile.
“I already don’t know what to do with the first one you pawned off on me.”
“First one?” Jared asked, his eyes widening. He looked back at me, the hope so overwhelming that the pain in his ribs was forgotten.
The door was jerked open behind Ainsley and a blur hit Jared with the force of a small hurricane. “Jared!”
He dropped to his knees and wrapped his arms around Aella. His face was buried in her shoulder, but by the way he was shaking I was sure he was crying.
I gave Ainsley a look. “You want us to separate them? Put the boy in more danger?”
She put her hands on her hips and glared at me. “You’ve got to be kidding me. You’re trying to guilt trip me! And what do you meanmoredanger?”
I pulled her away as Riggs knelt down and hugged both his kids. “Look,” I told her. “I’m sorry about this, but we have no one else to go to right now. They need someone who can protect them.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Fine,” she snapped, her eyes straying toward the little family and softening. They hardened again as she looked back at me. “Under one condition.”
“No problem,” I told her, grabbing her into my arms, dipping her back and kissing her until we were both breathless. When I came up for air, she smacked at my chest.
