“Fuck, princess,” he groaned, pulling me up onto his lap and claiming my mouth in a messy, desperate kiss, licking up the remnants of his own cum. “You’re going to be the death of me.”
I smiled, sinking onto his lap, reclaiming my throne and nuzzling into his neck. “You make me feel like I could take on the world.”
“That’s because you could,” he replied, tucking me tighter into his arms. “You’ve always had that power. And I’ll show you, again and again, just how much you own me.”
His words made me melt more than I had already, and I raised up to capture his lips again. Cupping his jaw, we fell into a sensual rhythm, tongues intertwining between us, holding lazy eye contact as they tangled together.
A musical ding sounded from Jax’s phone. He didn’t break the kiss, just smiled into it, one hand never leaving my skin as he reached behind me to check the message.
His thumb flicked the screen, body still arching into mine, mouth trailing a slow line over my jaw and to my ear.
He chuckled, breathless and unbothered over my skin, “Camera motion notification. Leo’s awake from his nap. He’s in his room.”
I blinked, suddenly dazed. “You have cameras?”
“Princess, of course. How else would I know when little feet are about to come flying into the room?” He grinned, tucking a strand ofhair behind my ear and kissing me, slow and deep, one last time before tucking my oversized shirt back into place and rebuckling his pants.
“Can’t have Leo walking in on us,” he whispered, mischief in his eyes as he resettled me against him, casual and unhurried.
Before I could smirk about his high-tech babysitting, I realized something and turned to him.
Leo waking from his nap reminded me of all the times he’d awoken in our small apartment, from when he was a baby till now, seeking my warmth in the damp rooms.
“Jax?”
“Yes, princess?”
“Can we go to my old apartment one more time? Before we… well, before we really move in here.”
He nodded, thoughtful. “You want to say goodbye?”
“Not just that. I want Leo to remember it, too. For as long as it’s only been us, I need to close that door right.”
Jax squeezed my hand, understanding flickering across his face as he stroked my hair. “Whatever you need. We’ll all go, yeah?”
“Yeah.” I sighed, then smiled. “But I’m ready for this. For here. For all of us.”
CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
Estelle
The drive to my apartment was quiet, the Bentley moving through streets I'd walked a thousand times. It felt strange to see them from behind tinted windows, from inside the cocoon of luxury Jax had wrapped around me.
The neighborhood looked smaller somehow, grayer, as if the color had been leached from it now that I was leaving.
Jax parked in front of my building and opened my door, one hand naturally finding mine as we walked up the cracked steps. Leo bounded ahead, but when I unlocked the door, his small body stopped short. We both did.
Empty. The apartment was completely empty, just bare walls and worn floors. The furniture was gone, the shelves cleared, even the curtains removed. Sunlight streamed through naked windows, illuminating dust motes that danced in the air.
I stood in the center of what had been our living room, turning slowly, taking it all in.
Leo blinked up at me, mouth opening and closing. His feet stayed planted just inside the door. “Where is everything?”
I spun around to stare at Jax. “You moved our stuff?”
He didn’t so much as raise an eyebrow. “You said you wanted to move in, and you know I don’t do half-measures.”
“Everything’s being delivered to the beach house today," He added, leaning against the doorframe, watching me intensely. "Everything's packed, labeled. Leo's dinosaurs, your clothes, photos. Not the furniture, of course.”
