Roman grunts and nods, and once again I have this feeling in my chest that Carlos and Johnny will no longer be breathing… just the way Alessandro’s eyes twinkle a little at the words ‘taken care of.’ Like he can’t wait to go take care of business once he’s done with us here.

Alessandro, he comes across a nice guy, but I wouldn’t want to ever cross him. Thankfully, he has a sense of humor. If he hadn’t… well, I don’t want to think about that. I bet his dad would have shot me before I could have even touched the gates. I’m lucky I got the Alessandro Amato with a sense of humor.

There are goodbyes exchanged, and Roman carries me to my car. Hands Asher my bag as he slips us into the back seat. Asher takes my keys out and starts the car. I can see his eyes in the rear vison mirror and I give him a brief nod. Roman just handed him the keys. He trusts Asher to drive us home. I take a deep breath and let my body sink into Roman’s embrace.

Everything’s going to be better from now on.

We drive in silence until we are out of the gated community and on our way back to home… wherever that is.

“Ice-cream?” I ask. And they all turn to me.

“You are the most unbelievable chick I have ever met, Mila. You know how to get a heart started. Fuck, I thought I was gonna die in there or something. And here you all are, ‘ice-cream’ like we just went to the movies or some shit.

“You took us to a mobsters’ house like it was a normal way to spend a Saturday afternoon.” Walker’s eyes widen and Roman holds me tighter.

I wink over at Walker and he shakes his head.

“Yeah, okay, I still want ice-cream.” He turns to look out the front again before turning around and pointing his finger at me. “Just remember, I’m not number five here. I only keep you around for your fine ass and smart mouth.” He winks at me.

“I told you I’m taking you to a mobsters' house. That was the plan. And don’t tell me threatening to break into a mobsters’ house doesn’t turn you on?” I tease back. He shakes his head.

“I get turned on by girls throwing themselves at me for a night of Walker Murphy, then leaving the next day. No strings, no drama, and no chicks trying to break into a mobsters’ house. If you know any like that, send them my way.”

I fake gag “boring.” Roman chuckles at that and I kiss him.

“Ice-cream?” I ask him and he smiles.

“Let’s get ice-cream.”

HUNTER

Ineed to keep a closer eye on Mila. I know she’s wild and strong willed, it's what had me falling in love with her the first day I met her. But maybe she’s a little impulsive. I can’t believe she went to the Amato house. Not only that, but— “she did what?” I turn to Asher, who’s standing in my living room, retelling the tale of what went down.

“She told Alessandro that if he doesn’t let her in, she was gonna jump the gate and come knock on his door.”

I look over at Mila, who’s still in Roman’s arms, but now they’re on the couch. I narrow my eyes at her and she quickly looks away from me. Yeah, she’s wild and strong, but she knows my thoughts about putting herself in danger. I’m gonna remind her about that later in my room when I spank her ass for being so reckless and scaring the shit out of me.

Roman growls again. He hasn’t let go of her and she loves it. Because she knows I won’t go over there and grab her, sling her over my shoulder and take her to my room. It would upset Roman, and he needs her right now after the scare she gave us all.

She glances back over at me and smiles. Like she knows my thoughts. I nod once, letting her know she’s in trouble and she pokes her tongue out to taunt me. I clench my teeth, holding back what I want to say. Because she’s pushing my buttons now. I want to hold her too, I want to protect her.

I don’t like the way she scared him or me. But one positive that happened today is that all this shit with the Amato Family is over. We don’t have to have to worry about that part of our lives anymore. We can move forward and I think the best way to do this is go out, have fun with our friends.

“Roman’s birthday is next week. We need to celebrate.” Roman looks over at me, his eyes widen. He hates parties. And he hates birthdays more. We have tried to do something special for him every year but now Mila’s back, I'm hoping that will change his mind.

“Yes, let's have a party.” Jace suggests and Roman shuts that down with a loud booming “no.”

“I think we should just go out, have some dinner, maybe go to that arcade place in Lakeview. Challenge Roman to some games.” Mila smiles as she moves back to gage Roman’s expression. He nods. Well, that was easy.

“They have laser tag there, too. That would be fun, get some teams together. Have Lakeview against Ridgecrest.” Asher supplies.

That’s actually not a bad idea. It’s not all about Roman then, it’s just a small group of us getting together and having some fun.

“So you and Walker against the four of us?” that doesn’t work out fair but I’m happy to kick Lakeview’s ass while I’m still a Rebel. And kick Asher’s ass. even though he did good today letting me know where Mila was. Still not happy with him trying to put the move on my girl when I’m not around.

“Heard from a little firecracker you’re gonna be a King soon enough, so you’re with us, Hunter.” Walker chuckles as he stuffs a cookie into his mouth.
