"Hey." I flashed her a toothy smile and I could feel her melting beneath my hand. I took a swig of the beer. It tasted like shit, but my mouth was suddenly dry. I had kissed girls… I had fucked girls, too. But standing in front of Clare had my hands trembling.

"Can I kiss you?" I asked. Her cheeks pinked up and she smiled shyly.

She didn't say anything, her emotions giving away that she wanted to, but I wanted her to say it. I wanted her to tell me it was okay to kiss her. That she wanted this too. Emotions might be one thing, but they didn’t rule our minds.

I dropped the cup as I bent down to her, cupping the side of her face. I moved in close, my thumb brushing over her lower lip as she licked out with her pink tongue, chasing the touch.

She closed her eyes and pressed herself against me.

"You didn't answer the question, Clare," I whispered against her earlobe, and she began to move. At first I thought she was dancing, but then I heard it. She was giggling. I pulled back to see her start to laugh loudly now, and I had no idea what I said to cause this reaction, but it had me smiling at her happy face.

This girl was everything, and I knew at that moment, she was it for me.

Even if it never went further than tonight, I knew I would have experienced true soul love with her and that would be enough for me.

Chapter10

Clare

“Answer the question, Clare.”

I couldn't stopmyself from laughing. I was so ready for him to kiss me. Oh god, I wanted him to kiss me, but then he opened his mouth and said those words, and I couldn't contain the giggles. From the look on Frankie's face, he had never seenThe Breakfast Club.

"I'm sorry," I quickly apologized, and he shook his head with a grin.

"No need to. Never asked a girl if I could kiss her, then have her burst out laughing. Tonight, is a night of firsts for me."

I shook my head, trying to stop the giggles, but it was like once it started it was hard to stop.

"It's a line from a movie. My mom was obsessed with it. My name is Clare after the character. Not spelled the same, though.”

He nodded, still smiling at me. “That makes sense.” He was still holding onto my waist, and I could feel his hard, warm body pressed against mine. I didn't factor in the weather when I agreed to the short dress. It was cold. Right up until he held me to him. Now, I felt hot all over.

"Should I ask you again?"

My cheeks heated and my heart pounded loudly in my chest. Frankie was going to be my first kiss. I took a deep breath and nodded. He moved in closer, pushing my hair behind my ear, his lips feathering across my cheek to my ear.

"Can I kiss you, Clare?" I swallowed the lump that had now formed in my throat and nodded.

I inhaled his musky scent as his lips pressed against the corner of my mouth. He pulled away a few inches and my body followed. He let out a small chuckle.

"I think I should make you wait a little longer… It's all about timing," he whispered into my ear. The music wasn't as loud out here, but I could still feel the bass of the song thrumming through me. Or maybe that was how he made me feel.

Vicki turned and grabbed my hand.

"Sorry, cat boy, she’s mine." She started jumping, her fist pumping in the air as her other fist held tightly to my wrist, dragging me away from Frankie. We rounded a corner where a couple was making out against the side of the house when she stopped.

"Hey, I know you're mad at me for breaking that up, but I want you to be sure the person you want to give your first kiss to is cat boy."

I rolled my eyes at the nickname and the fact she was worried about my first kiss. Was she for real? She wanted me to go out and party with her. She talked about me meeting guys and all the things I should be doing to them. And here I was, doing exactly that. Frankie was going to kiss me—well, I think he was—and she dragged me away to hide around a dark creepy corner of the house when she already knew the answer hours ago. Did this have something to do with the weird moment they had earlier.

"I want to kiss him." I thought it was obvious with my almost kissing him only moments before. I would prefer her not say "first kiss" out loud like that. It wasn't for everyone to know. I was glad the music was so loud that no one would have heard anyway.

Her eyes caught mine. Sometimes I swore she wore contacts. Her eyes could be blue, then green, even dark at times, and right now they were a dazzling blue.

"Okay," was all she said as she turned, dancing again and leading me back to where we just were. But Frankie wasn't there. I turned around. Maybe he was with his friends. I never thought to ask if his friends would be here. He might have been coming to this party when I asked him and, just being polite, he came with me.

I was doubting myself and I didn't want to do that with him. He liked me, I could tell. He had been showing me photos of Bagheera on his phone. Frankie wouldn't have left the party.
