Ada

Holy shit,I overslept. Mom came banging down my door to tell me to hurry up. I showered again. My hair was now clean, Mom checked the wound and it had closed over, so I just had to be careful.

I did my makeup. I didn’t have time to do my hair as I put my dress on and grabbed the small clutch Mom had lent me to go with my dress. It had my purse, phone and fit my car keys in there. Mom and Dad had already left. They wanted to go and see if Kiara and her parents needed any help setting up. They were good friends with Kiara’s parents. That’s probably why they accepted Kiara’s choice of two guys over the traditional one.

I hoped they would be understanding if I was to bring home two boyfriends. I would have to work up to getting the first one and see how it went from there. But that reminded me, I was going to prom with Huxley, he asked me. I couldn’t wait to tell Destiny I had a date to prom. It was a date, right?

I had that wolf outside my window last night which made it hard to sleep, so I needed to ask Galen, or one of the Kiba guys, if it was them outside my window.

I drove over to get Lexi and it was Elijah at the gate today. I felt relieved. I didn’t want to see Saint and I had forgotten that he often would be on duty here. I rolled down my window to say hello.

“Hi, Elijah.” He smiled and nodded at me before coming closer. He leaned against the roof of my car with his arm and looked down at me.

“Hey, how are you? I heard about what happened at school.” I winced a little. I didn’t want people to know I got attacked by Olivia at school. It was embarrassing. I hated always being the victim when it came to her and others pitying me.

“I’m fine, it was nothing,” I brushed it off, but he shook his head.

“Nah, I heard you stood up to her and the bitch went crazy. Noah told me that she has been frozen out of Kiba and Rawlins. That even Kenneally aren’t talking to her. That must be funny. I never liked her so I’m glad.”

Huh? Well. That was news to me. They froze her out, that made me smile. She deserved that, it was a fitting punishment.

“Oh, um… so there was a wolf outside my window last night.” I could see his eyes glow, then return to the browns he had. “Shit, um…”

“There was a wolf outside your window? What was it doing?”

I gripped my steering wheel a little tighter. Elijah was scary when he was all protective security guy.

“It made a sound, then I saw it across the street. I freaked out and sat on my bed. Then I told it if it was a good wolf to please leave because I was scared, and it did. I didn’t want to bring it up with Lexi, I didn’t want her worried. I was going to ask Galen…

“But you are pack security, so maybe you had an idea. Like, is there someone watching my house to protect me? Or is this like a lone wolf and I should be scared?”

Elijah shook his head. “I’ll fix it, I promise nothing will happen to you, Ada. We will protect you. I think it might have just been a miscommunication with security detail. We had been protecting you and your parents for the week after the attack but when we saw no threat, we were pulled from there. But I’ll check with Nash, he runs most the security with Nick and Justin.”

I nodded. I didn’t know who they were, but hopefully it was just a miscommunication like Elijah said. It would have been nice to know someone was looking after us on the days after the fighting. I thought we were on our own then and I was a little on edge.

I drove up to Galen’s place and he let me in without even needing to knock. I laughed at his face.

“She woke up late, I’ll grab her.” I nodded; I was having the same slow start to the day. There was someone else standing at the door and Galen’s eyes widened at them. I turned to see this gorgeous young guy. He walked into Galen’s house without even speaking to Galen.

“I was hoping to go to lunch with Lexi, but I think I’ve come at a bad time.”

The stranger turned to me and gave me a dazzling smile. Holy shit, his eyes were so pretty. “Oh, Lexi is coming to a wedding with me today. It’s a whole day event.”

Where did this guy come from? Was he behind me when I drove in? I didn’t think so. I would have noticed him. He was dressed so nice too. A dark suit, he gave off businessman vibes… on a Saturday. Plus, it was a little warm out for a full suit. Maybe he was part of the mafia? But then why would Lexi know some mafia guy? Maybe I needed to protect her against him.

“So… what do you do for a living?” I crossed my arms to look more intimidating. I thought it best to establish what he did first, because if he was a mobster it would be easier to know what to do with him. He moved further into the living room so I did the same. But I moved to the kitchen counter and sat on one of the stools there to seem taller.

“I’m an angel,” he winked at me. Oh… he was a flirt. Totally a mobster. That was what a mobster would say. Was he here to hurt Lexi? Or recruit her?

I watched enough crimes shows to know how to dispose of a body. Maybe Galen could kill him for me though, I couldn’t do that part. Then I could dig a hole, making sure it was really deep, not long. You want to make it small and put him down there standing up. Then put a dead animal on top to put off the scent of any cadaver dogs. His brows raised at me when I didn’t say anything.

“And you are Ada? Lexi’s best friend.” I glared at him… he was good, he had done his research.

“I might be,” I pursed my lips. “What do you want with Lexi?” He just chuckled, throwing his head back and really laughing at me.

“I wanted to take her to lunch, but I see you’re doing that already so I will just say hello, then leave.”

I put my chin on my hand and studied him. There was something about him… He didn’t seem like a shifter, he wasn’t human, I could tell that. Was he a vampire?
