I called out for more help, we needed back up, because we couldn’t do this alone. There was no answering cries from outside. The only call we got back was from Huxley inside the house. As the panther destroyed the door trying to gain entry, Huxley leapt through the gaping hole. His teeth instantly sinking into the soft flesh of the panther’s throat. Saint was there beside them, but he hesitated. What was he doing?

“Help him… oh god please help him, Saint”I yelled in my head. The panther was ripping its long claws into Huxley, he was being shredded as he held onto the shifter, but he didn’t let go… he wouldn’t let it inside to get to the kids.

Saint finally darted under the panther, ripping into its now unprotected belly. I felt my ear ripping as the wolf I was fighting grabbed hold of it. I could heal fast, but I couldn’t regrow body parts and I was really attached to my ear, so I slashed out at him. I saw the shadow of the panther in my peripheral vision as it leapt over us and outside the house.

I hadn’t been around panther shifters before, and it seemed that they had a much larger leap on them than I did. It made sense they would, they were built for that. I hadn’t ever bothered to learn about them, because it was mostly bears and wolf shifters around here.

Our pack finally answered our calls, as the female vampire that Galen knew—Shelly— appeared with the Seattle pack on the grass outside the house. The rest of the rogue wolves turned to them and attacked, leaving the house to do so.

I panted, trying to suck in enough air, the adrenaline was helping with the pain but I knew at any moment I would begin to all of this.

“Fuck, shit.” Saint was now in human form above me. I shifted back and stumbled to my feet.

“Shit, did you get bitten?” I looked down at my leg, it was covered in blood from a wolf bite but that seemed to be it. If a panther shifter bit me, I would know about it. It wouldn’t kill me but it would make me very sick, very fast.

The glass under my bare feet cut into me, as I looked up to the door. Huxley was laying on the ground in human form.

“Hux?” Was he hurt? I couldn’t see, Saint moved with me over to the guy that was competing with us for the most amazing girl in the world. I bent down and pushed him over only to find all the scratch marks were still there on him and he wasn’t healing from them.

“I don’t understand?” Saint had taken the panther on as well, and he seemed fine. “Huxley? Hey, wake up and I will take you to see Ada.” He did wake up, he was hardly breathing.

“They can’t kill us, right?” I asked Saint. He just looked at the wounds on Huxley, his eyes unfocused. He shook his head and looked down at his own leg. I could see where the blood and dirt were but there were no longer any scratches. Shit. Maybe Huxley was having an allergic reaction.

“Take him, I will protect the children.” Saint held my shoulder as he pushed himself up from the floor. Opening the door to the house, he stumbled a little then righted himself. He turned to see if I was watching.

“Just exhausted.” He explained to me, I nodded just as he shifted. I picked Hux up, he wasn’t as heavy as I thought he would be. I made my way through the house to where all the injured wolves were being brought.

I saw Ada, her blonde hair was up high in a pony tail and she was covered in blood. I watched as she tried to help someone, but another called out and she was called back to them. She stood up and turned to me. She was pale, her eyes wide as she took in the room. She wiped the back of her hand under her eyes… she’d wiped away a tear leaving a smear of blood in its place. When her eyes landed on me, she stumbled forward and screamed.

“No, no…” She held her throat as the tears streamed freely down her face.

Her eyes met mine and it was as if something in her snapped, she became hyper focused. As if she knew she had to cry later.

First, we need to heal Huxley and when he was well again… he needs to ask Ada on that date. Even better…

He will ask her to prom.

Ada

It was bad…So bad. There were no beds left… we were running out of all the supplies I thought we needed. Lexi just couldn’t heal them all, but I thought that maybe her blood might be able to. Here, now, this was my worst nightmare. There were so many with vampire bites, these were young ones, teenagers mostly who were injured. I knew they had been placed closer to the house, the older wolves were meant to be the buffer between them and the enemy. But if these guys were coming in here… where were the fathers, uncles… alphas? It was starting to look like more of them were in here than out there fighting. Which scared me, but I pushed the fear aside, I needed to be focused for my patients

Noah carried Huxley’s limp body further into the room and I could now see the claw marks. I reached out and my hand hovered above them. That wasn’t a wolf… it would have healed.

“It was a panther, I don’t understand. Saint healed from his…” he didn’t finish as I looked around for Saint. Was he here? I knew they were paired together, oh god he wasn’t hurt somewhere?

“He is watching the kids. They are safe. Shelly was there with the Seattle wolf pack.” I nodded and took a deep breath. I couldn’t be getting worked up like this, Huxley needs me, they all need me. I needed a calm, level head.

“We need to clean his wounds, grab a bowl with some fresh warm water, I will gather some towels.” Noah ran off in the direction of the kitchen and I looked back to Huxley. He was so beautiful and his body so marred. I didn’t want to invade his privacy as he lay here unconscious. I placed a towel over his middle… I would like to say I didn’t look… but I looked. But in a clinical way, I wanted to make sure there were no injuries there. I didn’t want to miss anything.

Zara was helping Lexi to put her blood into a bowl, it was all I could think of that could help and Lexi had agreed. Zara was wiping Lexi’s brow. It was too much for her, she couldn’t heal this many and she didn’t have the strength to be giving her blood either. I didn’t even know what was wrong with Huxley. If this was a panther and Saint had already healed from it, what did it mean for Huxley? Would her blood even work on him? On any of them?

“Here, I need to go guard the door they are trying to break through” I nodded to Noah as I took the warm water from him, it spilt over my fingers as I placed it beside me. I looked up to see his retreating form, he was naked… Hell most were, I think it was just me, Lexi, Kiara and Hazel who were clothed. Not that it mattered and I would need to burn these clothes tomorrow…if I lasted till tomorrow.

“Do you need help?” I didn’t even look up to the person asking, as I handed them a towel so they could help. I wet a small cloth and tried to clean Huxley’s wounds, they were deep… so deep. The towel blotted up blood and water…

“Shit, does he have a vampire bite somewhere, this makes no sense? What is this?” I saw it was Hazel, her eyes rimmed with red. Some of her hair had fallen down out of her bun and was hanging in her eyes. She used the back of her hand to brush it away.
