“You won’t kick out your packmate now, would you?” River put on a stupid voice. Mason growled at him. As Kenton and I watched to see what would happen. River had always played pranks and messed around. That was him, Mason was level-headed and in control… most the time.
“I am not happy about the reason you are wanting to be back so soon.Packmate.” I agreed with Mason.
“Olivia? Really? She’s hooked up with most the Kiba boys, why are you even thinking about this?”
She dated Parker Tolson from Pack Kenneally in junior year for a month. If she didn’t know about shifters, she sure did pick a lot of them to date, or hook up with at parties.
But as part of Rawlins, we didn’t have parties like they both did, we also didn’t have the numbers like the other packs do. Most others had at least five sons. The biggest family we had here were the Mason’s family and they only have three. Mason was the youngest. But his brother Dylan and his packmate Eli were going to have their commitment ceremony with Kiara this weekend.
Which was a big deal, and everyone was excited and nervous. Because it was the same night they turned her. They would give her the bite and inject their venom and she would become a shifter, but if she didn’t become a shifter well… I didn’t want to think about the other alternative. Because I like Kiara, she was really friendly and good for them.
We madeit back and I had a shower before dad asked me to help out at the shop, busy night he said. I got down there and he handed me the keys to his car and a full pizza warmer.
“What? No, you know I can’t.” I protested. I didn’t like the stares, I couldn’t deal with them and my wolf was already on edge over the Saint thing.
“This one is the only one I will make you do tonight.” He gave me his pleading eyes and I grumbled as I left the shop and got into his sedan. I grabbed the slip on the top with the address and froze. I looked up into the shops window. Dad had a huge grin on his face and held two thumbs up.
I shook my head as I entered the address. I knew where Ada lived, but I had never been there… not like this.
I was nervous the whole way there, I was glad I’d had a chance to shower before I came down to the shop. I wonder if mom had done this, had she told him I was home. I bet she did. Dad-G was out doing pack stuff, I think it had something to do with the other packs. And I bet dad told her about the pizza shop incident.
When I pulled onto her street, I could see the lights on in her house and I swallowed a lump in my throat. I couldn’t do this, she would reject me. I… fuck. I sat outside their place for five minutes before my phone started to ring, I looked down it was Mason.
“Yeah?” I answered, I bet he knew what I was up too. Bet the whole pack knew I was here.
“Hey, I heard you’re delivering a pizza and I wanted to see if you’d delivered it already?” I looked over to the white house, the street lights illuminating it. It had a nice garden out the front. It was nice, small and homely.
“No, I’m just sitting here letting it go cold.” There was a silence on the end before Mason responded.
“Is that like a joke or are you seriously just sitting there letting the girl of your dreams’ pizza go cold.” I didn’t answer, I rolled my eyes and asked him what he wanted.
“Well, the word is. Ada hasn’t been claimed by anyone in Kiba. But something went down on Saturday night there. I don’t know what but I overhead them talking about Callum Jones. He has been removed from the pack. And Ada was there on Saturday. I think she knows man, likeknowsknows.”
I let the words sink in. Ada knows about shifters. She knows about me.
“Thanks, that… well it makes this easier if she knows.”
I hung up on Mason and gathered everything, I made my way across the street. I talked myself into smiling and saying hello.
But when the door was answered and it wasn’t Ada, I faltered.
“Hi there son, what do I owe you?” my mouth dropped open as I realized I’d forgotten the order slip in the car. I think it was twenty? I stared at Ada’s father with what must have been a blank expression. He was a tall guy with graying hair, he was wearing a white shirt, the top two buttons undone like he just got home from work.
“Dad, it’s twenty, plus the tip. It’s the same every week.” That’s when I saw the blonde-haired beauty as she smiled at me from behind him. I saw the smile falter slightly, when she recognised me, then it returned
“Hi.” She waved. My eyes widened and I passed the pizzas to her dad. He moved inside to put them down and that was when I made my move.
I sprinted to the car. My heart pounding so loud I thought everyone would hear it. She called out to me, but I unlocked the car and drove back towards home without even looking back.
I realized then, I was scared of Ada Stephans.

It wasweird to know about shifters and not be able to talk about them. Like Huxley Moore. He was from Rawlins, and Lexi had told me that they were all pretty much shifters… same went with Kenneally. That there were three packs in the area and they all went to school together. And being territorial and wolf shifters meant there was a lot of fighting at school.
That’s where Galen stepped in and was compelling students to forget what they saw. Which was crazy, like he missed me that’s for sure. I wondered how many others had seen things they shouldn’t have and were left with questions.
