I guess what he’s looking at right away, and he struggles with figuring out what I’m referring to more than once. I don’t make it easy on him because he doesn’t like me to.

“Okay, one more since we’re almost to the drive-through. I spy with my little eye . . .” His gaze shifts from side to side as he leans forward. “Something green.”

Humming, I lean back and stop behind a blue car when we enter the fast-food parking lot. “The L in the building’s sign.”

“Nope,” he says proudly.

“Uh . . .” I let out a drawn-out breath. “The leash that guy over there is using to walk his dog.”

His back hits the seat. “Close enough. I was thinking of the collar.”

“So does this mean I win since I got the most right?”

“You know no one likes a sore winner, right?”

I stick out my tongue and his stomach shakes with laughter. We order food and Liam doesn’t wait to reach the house before digging into the bag. He’s hungrier than he let on, taking huge bites of his burger. “Fuck, that’s good.”

“Must be.” I fight back a smirk, stealing a fry from his lap.

“Hey, eat your own food.” He waves a fry at me.

“But everything tastes better when it’s from you.” I snatch it from his hand before it can reach his mouth, tossing it into mine.

“Everything?” His tone is sultry.

“Everything.” I graze his stirring cock before stealing more of his food, looking at him longingly before turning onto his street.

We carry the food inside and eat on the couch while Liam insists I watch an episode ofBig Bang Theorywith him. We laugh in between stuffing our faces, and after he’s done swallowing his last bite, he lays his head in my lap. I tangle my fingers in his hair, and he stiffens when my nails graze his scalp.

As I move my hands gently, he loosens up and scoots higher. I wonder what had him locking up only minutes ago.

“Do you not like head rubs?”

“I do when you give them.” He tilts his head back, smiling up at me, and then goes back to watching the TV.

Seems like this was another thing Daniel tried to ruin for him. Yeah, he has to go. Liam has already removed him from his life in his own way, and now it’s my turn. We watch three more episodes before Liam stretches out like a cat, asking, “Want to come to bed with me?”

“There’s only one way I’ll ever answer that question . . . Always.”

His lips twitch and I follow him to his room. He strips out of his clothes, avoiding the windows at every turn, and crawls under the covers. He doesn’t need them open with me here. Grabbing a sheet from the linen closet, I hang it up at the window, and he doesn’t question what I’m doing. Instead, he wiggles under the sheets, smiling and saying, “Thank you, Daddy.”

He’s saying that word more and more, my beautiful boy. He’s been going without being able to for so long, and now two people get to gain from it. Turning off the lights, I feel for the bed, and then crawl in beside him and spoon him from behind.

“Night, carino.”

“Night. Will you be here tomorrow to work on the boxes?”

“I’ll be here tomorrow for whatever reason you want me to be. I’ll be here for you.”

He snuggles tighter against me and I close my eyes, not wanting to sleep any other way ever again. How could I, when holding my boy feels better than lying in bed alone?

I stir awake to a loud crash. Liam is sound asleep, not budging as I pull away to look toward the hall. There’s more noise that leads me to the kitchen, and my steps come to a halt when I walk in to find a raccoon eating the cookies he spilled.

“How’d you get in, little rascal?” I shoo him and he takes a defensive stance. It takes a broom and large sweeping movements to get him out the back door . . . which was already open. We didn’t leave it that way. We hadn’t spent much time in the kitchen since being back here. Stepping outside, I lookaround, fully on guard and not going back in until I’m positive no one is lingering around.

It had to be Daniel. Do I need to pay him a visit tonight? I haven’t bothered to look at his location lately, and when I return inside it’s the first thing I do. He’s not anywhere near Liam’s house and isn’t at the lake either. It’s a new place. A hotel pops up when I enter the address. Weird. Is he with Jared? Someone new? What’s it matter when he and Liam aren’t together anymore? The man’s free to fuck whoever he wants, as long as it’s not who I consider to be mine and mine alone.

Pouring myself a glass of water, I sit at the table and watch the screen for another hour, but the dot doesn’t move. He’s staying there. It’s closer than his place, so the fucker might be trying to make it easier to swing by tomorrow to check if Liam is home, or easier for him to come by tonight while we were sleeping.
