“Not everyone.” It’s my family’s safety that has me thinking with a clearer head. “We will follow you back to the docks. Did you two come in separate cars?”
Isaiah nods. “We thought it would be safer. I came with Carlos and Able came here with Cesar.”
I glance in Able’s direction, tilting my head. “Why aren’t you in Mexico? I thought I gave you a job to do.”
He grins. “Must mean it’s been completed.”
“Julia’s sister?”
“Dead and delivered in pieces to each one of Del Rae’s night clubs and massage parlors.”
“Good. Hopefully he will be ready to make the next move soon.”
“Gabriel said Del Rae’s men were hanging around a few of your clubs, doing a horrible job at blending in. One left behind a card on the bar with the information to Peaches. There was a message on the back. It said, come home.”
I clutch my fists. “He wishes I made it that easy for him. How’s my son?”
“Back to his old self and was able to have a tracker placed on one of the guy's cars.”
“Any leads to Del Rae’s location yet?”
“Not yet, but we may have found his lover.”
“His wife?”
He cocks his head. “I don’t think she knows about him.”
My lips twist into a smile. “Then we should make sure she does.”
Marcus and I follow the boat Isaiah and Able are in. We get in our separate vehicles once the boats are docked and cleared off. Marcus tugs at my hand when I head in the opposite direction of him. “Vamos.”
I glance between the cars. “It’s better they don’t find us together in the same vehicle. It will make their life too easy.”
He frowns, sighing. “Come back to me.”
I pull him against me and kiss him slowly on the lips until we are both pulling away, gasping for air. “Just a little bit longer.”
We break apart. It’s hard for me to not turn around and take him in my arms again. When this is all over, I plan to give Marcus the vision he used to paint for us in his mind. “One day, we will go far away to somewhere we never have to hide or fear for our lives.”
One day can’t come soon enough.
Chapter 21
Marcus
Carlos stays close behind Able, following him back to Club Rio where Mario’s brother is being held. If Mario comes after us, it will be there first. It's going to be harder for him to go unnoticed in a public place downtown. There’s a reason the North location is where I have my main office, it’s not a place you want to cause a scene. We pull up to the back and all go inside, heading for the elevator.
Miguel grabs my hand as we all cram into the small space. I squeeze his fingers, offering him a reassuring smile letting him know it's okay to need me too. He also has moments where he's lost and vulnerable—I want to be the one to help him find his way.
We enter the basement and Isaiah stays ahead of us to open the cellar. The man tied to a chair is blindfolded with his hands behind his back. He shifts in his seat, fighting against the ropes. "Please. I don't know anything, I swear."
"Are you sure about that? He's your brother. Surely he's told you something."
He shakes his head, sobbing. "He hasn't told me anything and if you think he cares if I die, you're wrong."
"I guess we will have to wait and see, won't we." I yank the bandana off his eyes. "What's your name?"
"Fuck you."
