“I didn't come in here to talk about her, I came in here to talk to you. Now tell me where it is, or I’ll smash everything in this fucking room.”

I release a long sigh, continue to button my shirt. “Do what you must. I'm not stopping you.”

Robert glances at me and then his gaze falls to where my eyes land. I did i subconsciously. I didn't even realize I was staring at the figurine until it's too late. He grabs it from the dresser and smashes it to the ground, and a red light flashes from the small camera. “How long has this been here?”

“I don't know. I didn't know it was there to begin with. Why would you put a camera in my room?”

“I think we both know it wasn't me. But since you won't answer, I'll just wait until your boyfriend gets here and ask him.”

“What boyfriend? And what do you mean when he gets here?”

He laughs, running his fingers through his beard. “I like how you keep playing stupid. Too bad your eyes don’t match your words. Let's just say he is on his way as we speak in the back of one of my men's vehicles. Maybe if I bring you his body piece by piece you'll suddenly remember where your father put his money.”

I grit my teeth. “I told you already, I don’t fucking know about any money.”

“I know that's a lie. From what I hear, you knew everything your mother didn't. Your father even trusted you with his secret hiding spots and you were the one he had run his big errands. He knew you'd never betray him. He had too much power over you. I know about the explosive device he placed under your skin. He really was a sick fuck, that guy, but man he was also a damn genius. He had the world at his feet.”

“Yes, until he blew up into a thousand pieces. If I were you, I'd walk away now while you have a chance if I were you.”

Robert laughs again and this time it's deep and malicious. “I think it's funny you're trying to threaten me when you have nothing and no one. You are nothing, but a weak nobody now. Soon I'll show you what it's like when a real man sits at thetop where you used to be. First, I will find Jose's money with your help and second, I will take everything that is supposed to become yours when Mateo dies. I won't kill you though. No, I'll lock you back in that cage you've become accustomed to. Then I’ll let you watch me cut Angel into tiny pieces, since you had to miss it being done to Andy. Don't worry. I'll make sure you don't miss a thing this time.”

I spit at him. “Good luck getting to Mateo with Gabriel and Miguel alive.”

He smiles, running a hand through his hair. “I took Angel, didn't I? On the same day you told your mother he was untouchable. He had a weak moment and slipped. Love will do that to you. That's why it's best to never know it. A man without a weakness is untouchable and love is always the biggest one you can have.”

“You have a weakness. Everyone does, and soon someone will find it and use it against you. “

He shakes his head, and I don't miss the hesitation in his eyes. “I can assure you I don't. There is nothing for anyone to ever hold over my head. After all, I'm about to kill my own son, and then afterward, I will kill his brothers.” He’s wrong, love isn’t the biggest weakness a man can have. Someone’s lust for revenge can also be their downfall.

My eyes widen and I swallow down the lump in my throat. This is Bobby. There is no doubt in my mind now. I don’t say my thoughts out loud, because I can’t make him aware that I know. It would only confirm I’ve talked to Angel recently.

“There is a reason you never got the things you wanted. You were never deserving of them. You do everything half assed in life, and that’s the result you get in return. Half ass father, half ass mob boss, half ass lover, and half ass businessman. You will never be at the top, no matter who you kill. Face it, there will always be someone better and smarter than you. You can killwhoever you want, but it doesn’t matter. And the fact that you’re shaking right now tells me you do have a weakness. It’s your own fear of failing.”

He presses the gun against my head with his hand shaking and I laugh, throwing my head back. “Some scary confident mob boss you are. You can’t even hold a gun without shaking like a fucking leaf. You’re nothing more than a phony. How about you stand aside and let the big players win this game before you lose more than your new fancy house?”

His gun slams hard against the side of my face with a loud thump and I fall to the ground with my head spinning. I look up at him with blurry vision and he is smiling.

“You talk a lot of shit, don’t you? You forget I’m still the one with the gun in my hand.”

“You better hold on to it tightly, because soon that gun will be the only thing you have. In the end I’ll make sure it will be the exact one I use to kill you.”

Robert points the gun at my leg and shoots, causing me to scream. “That’s nothing more than a flesh wound, but if you don’t watch what comes out of that mouth of yours, the next bullet will be going into your head.” He exits the room, leaving me on the floor bleeding.

Angel

The doors open and the wood creaks beneath someone's shoes. “Good morning, hijo. I'm guessing you already know who I am. You're just like Marcus, always knowing way too much before you're supposed to. It’s not always a good thing, you know?”

A sharp kick comes to my stomach and I am falling forward, wrapping my arms around myself. “Fuck you,” I say, my words coming out strangled.

Bobby laughs and rips the hood from my head. “I knew it was you. The minute I saw you on those stairs. By the time it registered where I’d seen your face before, you were already gone. You are a sneaky son of a bitch, but clearly not sneaky enough. That must have been when you planted the camera in Santiago's room. Maybe I should play back the video and see what it is that has you wanting him so badly.

No real son of mine would be that weak. Falling in love with his enemy. I always wanted to take down the Morales family and I planned to do it at the wedding after they took down the Juventinos, but it never happened. No, you and your brothers had to come in and ruin my plans. My brother should have never had the life he did. He always did get everything. He even took my family away from me.”

“You left on your own, time and time again from what I hear. You were only ever known as the uncle who was nothing more than a disappointment.”

Another sharp kick comes to my stomach. “Tell me, hijo, do you wish to die a slow or fast death? At the rate you're going, I'm gonna go with slow.”
