“That sure did not go the way you wanted, right?”Mix said.

He looked over his shoulder.“Do you like peeping in on people and their personal lives?”

“No.My sister called while you were talking to Seth. Then, I called Dillon and lined up a decent safe house.I take it you’re going to be there?”

He nodded. There was no way she was getting rid of him.If those bastards came after her, they would have to go through him first.

To sayKeely was irritated would be putting it mildly.Even after a night’s rest, she wanted to growl. It wasn’t a whole night of rest because it had taken her forever to fall asleep.

She understood that she needed to be at a safe house.Truthfully, the safe house, or rather apartment, was in a luxury high-rise, and it was beautiful. When she saw the kitchen, she wanted to jump for joy.If they were going to have her hiding out, she would need to have at least a decent kitchen to cook in.Since that was her stress relief—as her other favorite stress relief was off the table—she decided that she would need to cook up a storm.

For some reason, she was hot.It wasn’t the insanely erotic dream she’d had about Ryan because she was refusing to deal with that. She glanced over at the heavy curtains. They looked like good blackout curtains; however, she saw some sun peeking in around the edges of the fabric. She had definitely slept in.It wasn’t like her, but they hadn’t arrived at the apartment until the early hours of the morning.Mix had insisted on driving all over Oahu.He said it was to make sure he could keep her safe. She’d rolled her eyes.

She rolled over and realized she wasn’t alone.A wall of fur greeted her. That’s why she was so hot.Maya had come in to sleep with her.Which meant Ryan was here.Dammit.Her heart sped up even as she wished he would just go away.

The memory of their one night together still left her hot.The guy definitely knew how to kiss, and no, she didn’t think he did it because he was ordered to.That was stupid, and as much as it is something they show in movies and even Task Force Honolulu, she knew that their time in bed together had not been fake.Still, it was hard to deal with the whiplash. The moment he got an order from his boss, he was ready to sell her out to her father.

Reaching out, Keely slid her hand down Maya’s back. The German Sheppard opened her eyes.

“You probably hurt your daddy’s feelings.”

“He’ll get over it,” Eden said from the doorway. She stepped in and closed the door.“How are you this morning?”

 She sat up.“Irritated.”

Eden’s mouth twitched.“I don’t blame you.But Dillon and TFH have been working overtime. They have some leads. Why don’t you get dressed and come on out so we can go over them? And Maya needs to go out, right?”she asked while staring at Maya.

The dog looked at Keely for approval, and she nodded.“Go on.I’ll be out in a sec.”

“Take your time,” Eden said as she opened the door to let Maya out. Then she stepped through the door and shut it with a click.

Since Maya was there, Keely knew she would at least be facing Ryan, and she didn’t want to do that. Not without a ton of coffee in her system. It only took her five minutes before she was stepping out into the living area.Aaron, Eden, and Mix were there, and so was another woman with long, dark hair. When the woman looked over at her, there was something vaguely familiar about her eyes.

“Hello.I’m Emily Daniels, everyone’s favorite at Dillon.”

The last name clicked, and she glanced over at Aaron, then back at Emily.“Hello.I take it you’re Aaron’s sister?”

She nodded.“Just don’t hold it against me.”

“Eden said there was stuff that was going on?”

“Yes.I thought we would let Ryan return because he was up all night working on it.”

Now, she felt even worse.Yes, she had every right to be mad about the situation, but she shouldn’t have taken it out on Ryan.He just made her feel so much, like more than she had with any other man. What did that say about her that she never felt this way with Chad? But her emotions were running on fear and extreme horniness. She guessed that was the best way to describe her obsession with Ryan.

There was a beep, and she realized it was the front door. With haste, she hurried to make herself a cup of coffee.Being a coward, she didn’t turn her head to look at him.All of a sudden, the Dillon agents seemed to disappear.Ryan walked toward her.She felt Maya brush against her legs.

 “Go get a drink, Maya.”

His deep voice rumbled over the words.Maya listened to him, and then it was just the two of them in the kitchen. She still hadn’t looked over at him.

 “How are you this morning?”

Gah, that voice. She remembered the way he sounded when he talked to her when they were in bed together. The memory of that had her squeezing her thighs together.“Fine.Sorry, Maya abandoned you.”

Keely could feel his gaze as it traveled over her.“Are you planning to not look at me ever again?”

 “It hurts.”
