Prudence sighed into the kiss, easily giving in to his advances as his mouth moved against hers hungrily. She clutched the lapels of his jacket, using her grip to keep him close and steady herself as his tongue danced with her own. She could scarcely breathe, and yet she wanted more—anything and everything he could offer.

His lips left hers and began to trail hot kisses down the exposed skin of her neck as a hand came to stroke her side gently.

“You planned this, did you not? To drive me absolutely insane, showing up for a boring dinner party looking like the belle of the ball,” he murmured against her throat, licking up a trail to her jaw. “It was all I could do to not ravish you.”

She shivered, her eyes fluttering open slowly as she told him shakily, “You have me now. Do with me whatever you want.”

He groaned against her skin, muttering curses under his breath. “You are trying to kill me, I swear.”

Before Prudence could tell him she only intended to relieve him of the stress of having to hold back, he swept her up into his arms and carried her to his desk.

His lips never left hers as he lowered her onto the desk with the utmost care, one hand moving to the back of her neck to hold her in a position that would ensure he could explore every corner and crevice of her mouth. His other hand gently pulled at the skirts of the gorgeous dress that he had envisioned ripping off her body since he laid eyes on her that night.

The material was soft and shimmery—truly a pretty thing—but it was the upper half of the dress that had caught his attention. A low neckline that bordered on improper with a fitted bodice that showed off her stunning figure. Aiden had nearly been driven mad with want while he had been seated by her side, highly irritated by all the looks cast in her direction.

He smiled when he touched the bare skin of her smooth thighs, and she shivered. He liked how easily she reacted to him. It made him want to tease her more, to coax out more of those delicious sounds he had heard by the lake the day before.

But they didn’t have much time tonight. He meant what he said about not wanting her to be subjected to slander because of him. She had only been excused because it was clear that she would come to check on him. However, nothing was more improper than an unmarried man and woman together, unchaperoned.

And so, even though the feel of her folds beneath his fingertips drove him wild with desire, he knew it would be unwise to start something he could not finish.

With a grunt, he sank to his knees, tugged her closer to the edge of his desk, and gently spread her legs apart.

“Aiden? What are you—oh!” She quickly slapped a hand over her mouth to muffle her moans.

Aiden smirked and licked her wetness again, relishing the full-body shiver he received in response. Prudence had barely managed to catch her breath before he began to lap at her core like a ravished animal, biting her bottom lip hard to keep herself from crying out.

His tongue seemed eager to ruin her, working deeply into her damp heat, seemingly unrelenting in his quest to explore.

“A-Aiden—wait, please—”

Prudence arched into him with a breathy gasp as his wicked tongue found her trigger, and her hand made its way into his hair, her fingers easily tangling in his dark blonde locks. She couldn’t think, could barely breathe, helpless against his skilled tongue.

Pleasure sizzled through every part of her body as he sucked on the slippery nub, knocking what air she had within her out of her lungs as she lost herself to the throes of ecstasy. Aiden petted her through her release, just as he had done the first time, his hands warm and secure on her hips as he stood up, licking her juices off his lips.

“There you go, lovely,” he muttered against her lips as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, holding him close.

She did not care about the taste of herself on his lips and tongue, only looking to savor every moment she had with him. Later, she would come to realize that the lines of their relationship were swiftly blurring between them, and that spelled nothing but danger for her.

But, for now, she would continue to bask in his embrace, the world outside, along with the troubles it held, completely forgotten.

Chapter Eighteen

“Ithink we should include more walks in our routine.”

Aiden sighed, raising his eyes skyward momentarily. “Do you not get tired of moving around? We do not need any more occasions to parade ourselves. In fact, I think we’ve shown enough of ourselves to last another week.”

Prudence pursed her lips to keep herself from snapping at him in irritation.

They had been going back and forth on this issue for about twenty minutes, and with how it seemed to be progressing in absolutely no direction, Prudence could tell that they were both nearing their limit. She glanced back at her sister and brother-in-law, relieved to see that they were far too caught up in each other to notice that she and Aiden were on the verge of an argument, before returning her attention to the man before her.

“I understand that you are getting weary of this, but we have made it this far already. It wouldn’t make much sense for things to start fizzling out when we still have more than two weeks to go.”

Aiden smirked, leaning in close to whisper to her coyly, “I know how to keep things hot and vibrant between us if that is what you need.”

She blushed and put some distance between them, fighting the urge to hit him with her parasol.

Her day had begun innocently enough with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. Nestled in the delicate petals was a note from Aiden.
