Cum was usually salty and bitter, but somehow, Fowler tasted like cherries. Tart, sweet, with a sharp edge that coated my throat as I swallowed his release.

“Too much,” Fowler grunted, and I let him fall from my lips. He collapsed next to me on the mattress that protested the weight. “So good.”

Chuckling, I turned into him so my head rested on his chest. “At least you’re not covered in cum.”

“Shit, let me get something to clean you up.”

Fowler hopped out of the bed and left the room naked, and I admired his ass as I listened to him find a towel in the bathroom he wet in the sink. He’d gotten up so quickly, I hoped he wasn’t regretting what we’d done.

Did I regret having multiple orgasms with the man I’d wanted for fifteen years? No.

Not unless it made him want to leave me again.

Chapter nineteen

Fowler

After returning from the bathroom to clean Riley up, I couldn’t help feeling the tension he was radiating. Even if I couldn’t smell his anxiety and hear his racing heart—a different cadence to his thrumming pulse as he orgasmed—I could read Riley Jones like a book. His shoulders were hunched up by his ears as he leaned against his headboard and chewed on his lip with furrowed brows. He’d also placed a throw pillow over his flaccid cock, like I hadn’t had it in my mouth minutes before.

“You all right, Ri?”

“Yeah,” Riley nodded absently, not meeting my gaze.

Placing one knee on the edge of his bed, I reached to caress his jaw. He didn’t shy away or brush me off as he finally looked up at me. His eyes showed the conflict and swirling thoughts going on in his head.

“Did I do something wrong? Or did we do something you didn’twant to do?”

“No! You were perfect.” Riley shook his head hard, and I dropped my hand, relieved. “I’m just feeling icky again.”

Knowing it had nothing to do with us, but that he felt like crap, had my wolf begging me to help. I sat beside him and brushed the hair off his forehead, which was hot.

“Hold on,” I insisted, throwing on my pants and underwear before getting him a glass of cold water and painkillers. Riley swallowed them down and drank all the water before curling into a ball on his side and closing his eyes.

“Thank you,” he whispered.

“Can I make you something? Soup, maybe? Or tea?”

“That’s okay. It’s probably a mix of jetlag and all the germs and allergens I’ve come into contact with catching up to me. I always get sick for a day or two after a long trip, and then I don’t get sick for a while,” he insisted, opening his eyes to look up at me. “You don’t need to stay.”

“If you’re sure,” I hedged, my wolf and I not wanting to let him out of our sight.

Protect!

I didn’t need my wolf to feel that emotion when it came to Riley.

“Besides, my mom will be home soon. I think I’m going to sleep until she has dinner ready. You should go spend time with your family.”

Rubbing the back of my neck, I pulled my phone out to see I had a missed call and a text from Channing asking me to pick up bread. “I did promise I’d be home for dinner.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow at the reunion?” Riley asked, biting his lower lip again.

Using my thumb to pull it free, I leaned down to kiss his abused flesh, the skin swollen from our kisses. Groaning at the taste of my own release on his skin. I rubbed my cheek against his and sat back. My wolf and I would have to be content that Riley smelled like us until I saw him again.

“Yeah,” I agreed. I hadn’t planned on attending the formal event, but if Riley would be there… “I’ll see you tomorrow. Text me if you need anything?”

Riley’s flushed face blinked up at me with a sweet little smile. “I will.”

Standing reluctantly, I found my top and shoes, putting them on before one last peck to his warm temple. “Get some rest.”
