It took me a few minutes before I felt ready to drive. The rage coursing through me made me edgy.

I couldn’t believe it had taken so long for us to figure it out. How long had it been happening? How long had Mac had to suffer because of abully? They were nine, for fuck’s sake. Nine was too young to be a bully.

Eventually, I managed to calm my nerves and make it into town and into Furfection, which was open and already busy with four-legged clients.

“Hey, you,” King said, walking me into the break room, closing the door.

Before I could even open my mouth, he pinned me against the door and brought our swollen lips together again.

I wanted nothing more than to enjoy it, to kiss him back and do naughty things to him locked up in here, but…

“What’s wrong?” he asked, narrowing his eyes and pulling back.

“It’s…you’re not gonna like this. God, what am I saying. Of course you’re not.Idon’t like this. You’re gonna be furious.”

His narrowed gaze turned into a grimace and his breathing got heavy.

“What happened?”

I told him. As expected, he cussed. He screamed. A couple of dogs howled outside in response.

“I’m gonna kill them. I’m gonna kill them all.”

“Hey.” I pulled him back into my arms and searched his eyes. “Let’s breathe.”

“I don’t wanna breathe. I wanna hurt whoever’s trying to mess with my girl.”

“I know. Me too,” I whispered back. “But we can’t do anything if we’re in prison, so…let’s take a deep breath.”

I inhaled and raised an eyebrow while waiting for King to do the same.

He did, rolling his eyes, and his body vibrated against me, spreading warmth from limb to limb.

“I know this is fucked up, but…” I stared into his beautiful eyes, knowing it’d never be enough. I could never stare at them enough. I could never hold him enough. I could never kiss him enough. “This is the only place I’d rather be. Here. With you. Bullies and mobsters be damned.”

I didn’t know what I said, but suddenly King’s frustration dissolved before my eyes, and he grabbed my face, pulling my mouth to his.

We stayed there for what felt like a century, and then we parted.

Yep. Never enough.

“I have no idea how I’d do any of this without you,” he said.

“You don’t have to think about that. I’m not going anywhere.”

King took a few more breaths, shook his arms, and bit his lip.

“What are we gonna do?”

“Wesley said he’d address it, so let’s see what happens. And in the meantime, we can…we can show Mac what a kickass girl she is.”

“Damn right. Coffee?” He turned to fill a cup, and even though I really shouldn’t when my nerves were so on edge, I couldn’t quite resist the liquid gold.

When we eventually emerged from the break room, two guys stood by reception, whistling at us while a brown floof tried to jump at King.

“Well, well, well, what were Mr. Moore and Mr. Myers doing in a locked room?” Asher cooed with wiggly eyebrows, and Maddox smirked.

“It could only be one thing!” he said.
